Today I’d like to show you an M113 that’s a bit more unusual (at least for me). I wanted to build the old Tamiya M113 ACAV, which had been lying around for ages, in a Cold War setting, but it seems that this good old aluminium box, with its additional machine guns and protective shields, was hardly ever used outside Vietnam. The exception: the Alaska National Guard. Although there are very few pictures of this, I did manage to find a couple, which I used as a guide. So here is an M113 from the 207th Infantry Group (Scout), Alaska Army National Guard, during a ‘Brim Frost’ exercise in the late 1980s… I hope you like it.
While we’re on the subject; as I said, I haven’t found any other pictures of ‘non-Vietnam’ vehicles. Well, almost none. I seem to recall having seen a single picture of an M113 with at least the .50 turret and protective shield in MERDC winter verdant, belonging to a reconnaissance unit in Germany in the 1980s. I’ve searched high and low, but I can’t find it anymore. Does anyone recognise the picture I mentioned and/or have any information about it?

The BFAs for the M-60 are (unfortunately) not available anywhere on the market, so I had no choice but to make them myself from plastic sheet …
There’s a Dragon figure set that includes one, I think … It’s been so long that I don’t remember which one, or even if it is actually from Dragon. But I know I have one somewhere
OK folks, I made a recommendation to 3D Micro-Cosmos regarding the M60 BFA, and after three days, they forwarded a rendering of the M60 with BFA mounted, in both bipod stowed and bipod extended versions. This company really listens to what the enthusiasts are seeking. My Messenger no longer shows the rendering, but I’ll post it up when I can find it again.
Where was that figure 18 months ago when i wanted a parka clad dude? These always come out AFTER completing the build lol. I may need to get him for a future build.
