Good evening everyone
Even after searching for an hour, I haven’t found a satisfactory explanation, which is why I’m asking here: in some photos, strips or bands can be seen running the entire length of the sides of M113 APCs (usually three of them). What were they made of, and what were they for? As far as I can tell, they are/were only found on US Army vehicles?!
Thanks in advance
Roger

Aren’t they merely adhesive strips of Velcro for the attachment of MILES-type training stuff?
Happy to be re-educated of course(!)

Yes, it’s the hook side of Velcro for the MILES gear. We would attach it with a 3M spray adhesive
The sides have three strips for the belts and protective rails while the front and rear have single strips for the belts only, no protective rails needed.

MILES - Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System. A US training system to score hits and kills on vehicles and personnel. It makes training just like playing a real - life game of Laser Tag.

The Velcro is still there, the system is just different with less, or no wires running all over the vehicle.

Except when it didn’t work, especially when the Hoffman Device failed.
It was fun riding around with a God Gun, just wasting vehicles!!!
