Thanks, I think I’d seen 1 or maybe 2 of these. When I was searching images they showed an artist drawing of one with the Crouse-Hinds light, have you seen anything like? I know they were around the Marines, so maybe they got one from them. Wayne

No, I can’t say that I’ve seen any of those searchlights on any 5th ID M48s in photos. Only the later boxy style searchlights. 1st Brigade 5th ID was not deployed until post Tet in 1968, so it’s quite likely that the old round searchlights were long gone by then. The Marine M48s photographed with those lights were seen earlier in the war.

Yeah, I thought it was unlikely, but the drawing was supposedly from tank encyclopedia website, so who knows. It mentioned them being around the Marines. Anyway it would be a cool version if it was actually real. And just looking again it shows it as an IDF tank, so who knows? By the way could you show what 4/12 markings would look like? Wayne

Sure thing… here is one of their A3’s.
The unit bumper codes are 5 I 4R12, while this tank is A31. It was only A Troop deployed with the Brigade. The A3s also had the Cav pennant on the turret and division Red Diamond on the glacis. The A2’s did not. But I did find these photos from A 4/12 that look to be an A2 with the glacis star and red diamond in the middle, similar to the early WWII US aircraft markings… too bad the photo is not more clear to make out the full bumper codes

That’s OK, I’m learning stuff, which is why I started this post. Haven’t really done much work yet, mostly going through my parts box to see what I have.

Just looking over your pictures it looks like they mounted their 50s up top instead of the cupola mount. Wayne

Yup. That was pretty much the standard by then. From what I’ve read, the .50 was easier to operate quickly when mounted in this manner.

After seeing the cav flag it triggered a memory and I dug thru my decal sets The old Verlinden dry transfers and the old APC Armor set have a couple. The A
rmor ones are from the Squadron book, but the Verlinden ones look like they might be 12th cav. Wayne

The original Monogram American armor - M48A2, jeep, 6x6, halftracks, Weasel, and figures - was 1/35. The M3 Lee and Grant, Shermans, and M8, as well as the German stuff, was 1/32.
