M60A3 Patton- REFORGER 1985

I’m building the M60A3 TTS Patton from the AFV club kit as 4th BN, 69th Armor in the 1985 REFORGER exercise.

My progress so far. I had to get a replacement drivers hatch as the dreaded Toddler Monster took off with the kit hatch I had assembled.

I have a defmodel antenna kit coming, and plan to add some stowage.

I think when I did REFORGER it was in '85 and I was on a M60A3.

Working on the turret some more:

The globe thing on the post on the rear of the turret, is it supposed to be there or not?

That is the wind sensor and it was only installed during gunnery.

Yes, leave it, it’s the crosswind sensor.

Only used during gunnery, it should be removed.

So would the post still be there?

Yes, the mast is permanently mounted and is on a spring and could be bent down and secured on a hook, but that was only done while mounted on railcars.

The texture looks too rough and the loaders periscope was never mounted.

The casting texture I’m just gonna have to deal with.

I think some sanding will work.

It’s mostly build so, it’s something I’ll have to deal with.

I had to order a 3d printed turret rack for the rear as the kit one, absolutely disintegrated.

The worst bit of M60s.The turret baskets always cause me grief.I ruined an Italeri one and thankfully got one from the importers. The Tamiya and Italeri ones can be be PITA!!!

Turret is nearly done. I have to wait for the 3D replacement turret basket to come in.

This is very nice work, and I’ve a mind to start one myself (!) Always the tangent, always the tangent…

A shame though that AFV Club went overboard with the texture. Anyway, as I’ve found with a similar affliction on my Revell M48s, with a couple of coats of primer and then paint, the effect is greatly diminished, and I suspect that will be the case with yours.

As I say, very nice work
