Hi all.
Putting together a small vignette using the excellent anti-drone version of the Magic Factory MRZR. A fiddly kit with lots of small parts, but very rewarding once complete.
These are two of the figures, working up the third operator now.

The soldiers are awesome ! The whole painting work is remarkable.
What is your method to paint eyes ?
Thanks.
The eyes are usually the first part of the face I paint, because if it doesn’t look right, it will throw the whole thing off. I start by using an off-white or light flesh colour for the “whites”. Then outline the top with a burnt umber and dot in the eyes below this, making sure they touch the top and bottom. (creating almost a T-shape). The eyes should be roughly in line with the edges of the mouth (vertically). If you are right handed, like I am, I find it best to do the left hand side eye first (as you look at the face). This is the most awkward, as the nose gets in the way. If this one works, the other side is easier.
Once you are happy with the eyes, you can fill in around them with your chosen flesh colour.
It’s also handy to have a small mirror to hand so you can use a real reference !
Hope this helps.
Awesome looking figures there Andy- you’ve really picked out the details well. Nicely expressive faces and meticulous lights and shades. That digital camo looks excellent too!
Thanks Karl.
Masterfully done, as always Andy. The camo on the crew figure is absolutely insane.
Mario
Thanks Mario.
Been on a bit of a digital adventure lately. MARPAT was one of patterns I wanted to try out. Hope it worked
The figures look great.
Thanks !
Wow, the skin color is awesome compared to your “normal” peachy flesh tones. Your digital camouflage and figure painting skills are excellent!
As per the rest …those figures are superb…
Fiddly parts is not the only problem! indiscribal, p and this kit combo arts placement unlocatable connection points. I’ve been building kits for decades and this combo kits is mind boggeling. Stupid thing is I bought the Booker tank and ended up getting another one. DUH !
Andy those figures are superb! The MARPAT is outstanding as well!
I tried the Army ACU pattern a few years ago and almost went blind! It’s very difficult and you’ve hit a home run !
Thanks. Yes the skin colour does change quite dramatically once the highlighting and shading go on. I also wanted to make sure they looked tanned, considering the environment.
Thanks !
There were a couple of head-scratching moments, if I recall, but nothing too drastic. I probably made things harder for myself because I wanted to make as much as I could come apart for painting (last picture). Dry fitting a lot was the order of the day here.
Thanks ! I think the key to digital camo is to try and capture the feel of it, rather than trying to replicate the pattern exactly. It certainly does test the concentration.
This is my take on the Army ACU/UCP pattern. Masterbox figure with a Live Resin head and SAW.
That’s one of the best renditions of the ACU camo I’ve ever seen. Much better than mine; and you are correct in saying it’s better to get the feel of it instead of trying to replicate it precisely. Fantastic!
Wow, that’s incredible, and worthy of box art coverage! Your photography skills are top-notch too!
If any publisher or figure manufacturer approaches you for box art photo, magazine, or book offers, your choice to consider.
Thanks. I’ve tried this pattern a couple of times but this version is the one I’m most pleased with.
Very kind of you but not sure I’m quite ready for boxart. I’ve done a few magazine articles though, usually for David at Military Modelcraft International.
Outstanding! I can see why you’ve done magazine articles. Spectacular work!
Thanks.
