Makinen's sentimental portfolio - HMMWVs galore

What an amazing body of work. Where do you display/store all of these?
I could spend hours in the thread alone

Thank you – I have five glass display cabinets from IKEA.

Can you show us how it all looks in glass cabinets?

Great collection. All amazing builds.

Yes, but I will have to start reducing the older and poorer quality models. There is no space for a sixth display case, and besides, IKEA stopped producing them a long time ago. :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s a great collection !
That’s funny I have the same cabinet- which my two dogs tried to destroy by knocking it over. The cabinet survived with no damage but most of the models were complete wrecks.

Not true! Go to Amazon.com and buy some “Clear plastic risers,” and if you don’t move your models, you can have “clear shelves” above them for more vehicles.

As long as you don’t have earthquakes, or the cabinets aren’t disturbed, the clear plastic risers should give you more space since you have plenty of empty height in your display cabinets.

You’re going to have to search and shop around for the best riser to fit your shelf dimensions. Ensure that the clear plastic riser is tall enough to put vehicles below it, and wide enough to put vehicles on top of it. You can then align them in a row and have another shelf above your vehicles down below…and the risers aren’t that expensive at all. @Makinen

Make sure that the risers are tall enough to clear your antennas.

There is a HUGE VARIETY to choose from…lots of dimensions, quantities, and products.

I just received some clear acrylic risers for my glass cabinet to enhance the presentation of my figures and vignettes. The variation in height allows the figures to be placed at different levels… this way each figure is visible and does not overshadow the others.

There are tons of different sizes to chose from, indeed, but I would be reluctant to display the vehicles one on top of the other using these risers. If I remember correctly there were some “upgrade kits” for these IKEA glass cabinets which offered extra shelves, but I can’t seem to find them at the moment.

Yes, I don’t recommend the varying height risers because that will take up too much space. I recommend that @Makinen create a whole new level above his base shelf with risers of equal height placed next to each other.

An issue is that the vehicle’s antennas might be too tall, but I doubt any 1/35 vehicle will exceed six inches in height, even with an antenna.

Piotr’s IKEA glass display cabinets don’t come with predrilled holes to mount metal clips and brackets to mount extra shelves because the sides are all glass, not wood, thus the clear plastic risers are an option.

I’ve already done some research on this topic. There are additional mounting brackets and glass shelves.

Yes, this is similar to what my friend used for his glass cabinets.

Very nice. What is it though? It looks kind of like the new ISV (Infantry Squad Vehicle). but not quite.
