Decades ago Dragon released a superb 1/35 SAS set for NW Europe, 1944. It was re-released with a Welbike and parachute container. The poses and Denison smoks are closely aligned as you can see.
The kneeling figure’s beret is aligned in a near identical fashion.
The Commando officer pointing looks very much in the same pose (and uniform, except for the rope wrapped around the waist) as the SAS Bren gunner.
The SAS Tommy gunner is in the same pose as the Commando knife man.
The SAS M1 carbine man is in the same pose as the Commando sniper.
I’ve never seen British Army or Royal Marine Commandoes of WW2 in Denison smocks. I have for British Army infantry snipers and a miniscule number of senior officers sporting it.
I think it’s a good set, but the inspiration for the poses, considering there’s an infinite amount to conjure up, is unimaginative. I like Masterbox, but you have to admit my observations are pertinent.
See the Walcheren campaign for Commandos wearing Denison smocks although it was adopted before this; you may also wish to note that one of the Dragon figures is wearing the Windproof Smock (this was part of a set including trousers). This was available in camouflage or plain green finish. It was widely worn by the SAS, but also British line regiments too. Post war it became the hallmark of the SAS, though in case one might think this was a partially martial garment, it was also worn by members of the Women’s Royal Army Corps - amongst others.
I’ve no skin in this game other than wishing to add to the general knowledge of Brit uniforms; I’m not especially bothered by the poses from any perspective. If one manufacturer takes inspiration from another, then so be it.
