Indeed, I cast a critical eye over the stash late last year and dragged out about 25 kits that will go on my club members market page!
I will work my way towards it. My 1/12 stash is always nudging at me to get some focus and get serious though. On top of the 300 SL WIP, there are 5 x '57 Bel Airs, 3 x '67 Corvettes and 1 x '69 Camaro so they apply some pressure when they want
Anyway, dreams are free. Perhaps one day. Until then I can live vicariously through you guys and slowly chip away.
Cheers, D

So looking at that photo and going back and looking at the other pictures of the wire wheels it has dawned on me the whole wheel is painted, not just the rims. The MFH instructions do say “wheel” but only show the rims coloured. Time to mix up some more colour.

Well after much procrastinating I finally got around to it. I built wheels, even a steering wheel, as well a handbrake etc all to avoid having to paint. I don’t like painting much, which is odd because cars tend to be all about the paint finish, but I do like building them. And this particular session didn’t improve my chances much as it is about 18 months since I last painted a car and I forgot you tilt the model not the airbrush. At least the paint flowing out of the cup went over my glove rather than the car. But perhaps getting the bad luck out of the way early was a good thing because this turned out to be one of my better efforts.
The “hatches” all got done as well so I am happy with this for the meantime. I probably give it another round for a deeper red on the weekend.

Beautiful smooth paint job Michael, you haven’t lost your touch it seems !!!
Cheers, D
You are lucky you have airbrush capability, I have no such luck ~ I will have to wait for much warmer / dryer weather as I have to rattle can-it outside, I have best luck when its about 30% humidity and 70 or so degrees ~ Looking forward to seeing the final coat ! will you be applying decals, or going without ?
Yes for the decals #534, the Collins/Klemantski car.

So to number the car we had to attach the crew hatches. The driver’s door operates, the passenger door was bolted shut to ensure the saddle tank, carried for the Mille Milgia only, wasn’t messed with.
Clearcoat to protect all of this and then we can start dressing the body.

I meant to mention you achieved a Great fit on the hood, mine is hugely oversized and will require allot of material to be removed.

@Ferrari166 Thanks. My hood wasn’t oversized but did arrive flat so took quite a bit of to get curves across as well as front to back. For the trunk was well over sized but just on one side, the hump side. A lot shaving with a blade then filing finally got it there though I never got all the ripples out of the middle. I just decided to live with it in the end.

Any update on this fabulous rare model Michael ?
Sort of stall due to lack of motivation to push on and finish. Hopefully this month I will get back to it.

Yes Michael - I know all too well about fluctuating mojo . At least with MFH kits there is no doubt they are worth finishing at some point . Hope it’s sooner rather than later.
Cheers- Richard
Well I roused myself enough to resolve that I would get the Ferrari finished - maybe I should have left it on the shelf.
Anyway, I got the gloss coat on - it does look better than the pictures and should be ok after a polish and wax
Post drying, fate intervened, and I drop it in its nose. The damage looked surprising light, a small chip over the rh light
however, while the body shell is resin, the doors are metal, and they seemed to have rattled in their openings, chipping the paint and decals on both sides
Bu**er as we would say down here.
In between gloss coats I has managed to complete the sharkmouth grill, which was a mini-triumph in of itself as the fit of the etch to the frame was pretty poor.
It will be a test to fix the damage. I will see how it goes.

HI Michael,
Wow - I can imagine your frustration with this - inching forward only to slide back, especially challenging on a car like this I wish I could offer you some clear advice or even suggestions, but as you’ve built many remarkable projects, I suppose you’ve had to deal with these, or similar challenges before.
I’ve built a few MFH kits, so in that regard can at least understand what you’re dealing with. After soldiering through the assembly - chips in paint…I too have experienced those, coupled of course with a loss in the fitment I somehow achieved before the paint went on!
Hopefully you regain your interest, patience, and perseverance! I’m looking forward to seeing you finish another great project!
Cheers

Too bad Michael- that sucks , especially when the mojo is low , but I know you can repair it . Glad to see the progress.

I admire your resolve, I still have to build the fussy wire wheels on mine, at least you are past that step. Its the windscreen task I dread most ~

@Stickframe @RDT1953 Thanks guys!
Took out the doors and set them aside, they’re pretty much undamaged. Now I am over the drop I was quite happy back at the bench. Made up the headlights and dry fitted that grill.
I think I’m back into it!

@Ferrari166 The windscreens usually aren’t too bad. I have a done a variety now, the Ducati was the most nerve-wracking cutting the curves in the screen for the fairing but if you take it slow and careful should be fine.
I spent some time today polishing, drilling holes and test fitting the frame.
I will probably fit the frame then the screen to ensure a better fit.
