Modern Camouflage Nets in Small Scale

I am aware that certain companies offer modern camouflage nets in 1/35 scale;
AK Interactive offer a range referred to as ‘Mimetic Nets’. Unfortunately, I am
unable to find similar items in small scale (1/72 and 1/76 scales).
The older type of nets are simple to replicate using sections of surgical gauze,
but the modern types such as Barracuda are difficult to recreate effectively.
It is odd that companies such as AK do not offer these in smaller scales.
Any thoughts?

What do you want to replicate? Camo nets on vehicles or “stand-alone”?

As you say, the older ones are easy enough to replicate, whether stowed or deployed; however, I have found this after a very brief trawl searching with “1/72 camouflage nets” since you ask:

Shown on eBay as:

Metallic Details MDP72039 1:72 Modern Camouflage Net (Barracuda-type) )

for a mere 5 quid or thereabouts.

HermannB and BootsDMS,

It is for draping over various modern-era AFVs … Leopard 2A5/A6, Abrams, Challenger 2, etc. Yes, those items in the Metallic Details range look promising. Given the name of the company, I had assumed that these would be made from etched brass (difficult to manipulate and conform to the contours of a vehicle. However, looking at the image, it appears that these may be made from some flexible material … paper or cloth? Certainly worth checking out..

Well, “Yes”, definitely worth checking out; also easy enough to find without much lateral thinking at all!

Brian,

I’ve just researched this product on their website. Evidently it’s a 3D waterslide decal. Just how effective it will be I’m not sure. That said, it’s probably worth checking out … not too expensive if it turns out to be useless!
