MRAP ID help

I want all of the MRAPS. My biggest complaint in the modeling realm is the under representation on the modern US military subjects.

I have the Panda MRAP kits, Cougar 4x4, JERRV 6x6, M-ATV and MaxxPro Dash DXM. None of them are started but I did build the Panda Tunguska and TOR. The Panda kits are fiddly but build up decently. The Tunguska is very, very fiddly especially the missile launchers that attach to the side of the guns. I hope the MRAPs aren’t as fiddly as the Tunguska kit was.

I also have the I Love Kit and RFM JLTV kits. I am waiting on the I Love Kit SOCOM M-ATV. Some other ones I have but not U.S. MRAPs are the RPG and Zvezda K-4386 Typhoon VDV. Again, none are started.

Their Cougar was quite fiddly for many who posted their builds. The hull top and bottoms would not mate up, and they actually have to fill a huge gap with filler. But there was very simple fix. I can’t find the thread. It involves trimming about 2 mm from the bottom of the interior panels. You’ll never see it, but the top and bottom will mate perfectly after that.

Thanks! I will see if I can find it.

Holy shi+! That site is still around? I have to say I haven’t even visited it in ages. No, you’re not the person I was referring to. I posted my fix prior to 2021. I think it’s on the archived Armorama which is why I couldn’t find it, But I’m glad you were able to fix the problem on your own, Many others did not. But I did not need to use a strip of plastic - I simply cut down the interior walls a bit and removed a couple of bolts.

This is what I have now on my workbench: an M1238A1.

Lot of scratch building and 3d printed parts.
TAK4 have taken from the Mk.23 by Trumpeter.
Some parts are from the Kinetic RG31 mk5.

I’ll open a separate thread to provide more info and pictures of this WIP model.

Looking good! What kit did you start off with?

It all started with building a new hull, the M1238 (RG-33) is much larger than the RG-31.
See the difference of the new hull, in white plasticard, with the RG-31 body from the Kinetic kit.

I then used engine and crankshaft from the RG-31 and the TAK-4 from the Mk.23.

But this was only the very beginning … more in a dedicated post that I will open next week.

Looking for any more photos specifically of the SOCOM M-ATV in full camo. I have a few different photos but they are all different patterns. I am looking for photos of the top and all sides so I can see what the pattern looks like for any of the full camo SOCOM M-ATV’s shown below.

These show the right side and front and I can make out the top of the hood but only partial of the right side of the roof. Does anyone have photos of the left side, top and rear?

This one has a different pattern as the one in the first photo above.

Even though this shows the left side, the pattern seems to be different as the camo doesn’t go below the doors as shown on the one in the first and third photos. This one also has the extra ammo can holders on the turret where the ones in the photos above doesn’t have them.

This one is again a different camo pattern.

Looking for info on a couple more M-ATV’s if anyone can help.

First up is, FLYING DUTCHMAN. This one is a SOCOM version but looking for more reference photos of it. This is the only photo I can find. If anyone has more photos and willing to share, please post them here or by PM, thanks!

According to this link, it says it was operated by MARSOC Raiders. Does anyone know if it was really operated by MARSOC or did they just pose in front of it?

Can anyone ID this second one? It looks to be a regular M-ATV by the spacing in the center of the windshield. The SOCOM version has a smaller gap. This one also has a different rear section. Did they cover the rear in sheet metal in the field or is it a completely different rear section? It is not the same as the SOCOM version as it doesn’t have the horizontal ribs. Again, if anyone has more photos and willing to share, please post them here or by PM, thanks!

That camo is consistent with the camo I have for the MARSOC GMVs.

Thanks! I found a few more images of MARSOC SOCOM M-ATV’s but all are in overall sand.

Here is one with the MARSOC Raider flag flying off the back of a SOCOM M-ATV.

Still looking for photos of the ones in the camo.

This is definitely not the Special Forces M1245, it is probably a modified M1240 for use by a Special Forces unit.
Maybe the patch on the right arm of the front soldier can help some of the fellow modellers at KitMaker forums to identify the unit.

Years ago I found in the internet two photos of a similar model, at least in the back area, but don’t have any more info on them.

Thanks for the photos.

Yes, the one I was referring to is an M1240. From the woodland BDU’s, I am guessing they are MARSOC Raiders. I can’t ID the patches but I think MARSOC are the only ones (?) still wearing woodland BDU’s.

The one I originally posted looks to have something either bolted on or welded on the rear frame. You can see the outline of the frame as pointed out with the #2’s. You can see an extra frame bolted to the bottom as pointed out as #1. This makes me think the new solid piece is bolted on. The windshield spacing also shows it as an M1240 shown as #3.

In this photo, you can see the outline of the frame which is the same as the one shown above pointed out as the #2’s. You can see the holes in the original frame where the new cross bar was bolted on as pointed out as #1 as seen on the photo of the camo M1240 above.
