Mustang

So I ordered another P-51 as I wanted one with the Malcolm hood, now this Eduard kit has some of the best paint schemes 6 in total.

I’ve norrowed it down to 3 that I like the most but can’t decide which one to model, it’s a tough choice.

I would go with what is unique or less of in your collection.

Most of my model plane collection is still in their boxes apart from the Eduard 1/72 Hellcat which is ready for painting.

I have only just started back on aircraft after 20+ years hiatus, I was building armour models for a long time but WW2 planes is really where my heart is.

I’m leaning more towards The Mighty Midget as for the funny look and bare metal wing halves.

Thanks for replying

That’s what I’ve decided to do.

Seems a bit strange with the instructions on Sallee as Eduard have you fill in the two side cooling vents, can’t see that happening.maybe swap the blank ones for the perforated vents.

The perforated cooling vents on both sides of the nose are often associated with Merlin Mustangs, but these panels could be replaced with solid ones for cold weather conditions. Also, many Mustangs supplied to RAF and Commonwealth had these vents covered with louvered panels.”

On a side note, early “B’s” did not have them at all…(https://wingstracksguns.com/2021/05/merlin-mustang-history-of-the-p-51/ )

Possible Sallee could be an early with Malcolm hood.

I found a couple of photos but they don’t show the vents as there blocked by the wing.

According to the info I found here :

and here : https://forgottenprops.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/p51b-mustang-4312093-4312492.html

Short-Fuse Salee was a P-51B-1-NA. The B-1 did not have the perforated vents. ( These vents didn’t come until the P-51B-5-NA…)

From https://americanarchive.iwm.org.uk/archive/aircraft/43-12434 :

Short-Fuse Sallee AJ-T was assigned to Dick Turner from Dec 1943 to at least May 1944. A Malcom Hood was added prior to 6 Mar 1944.

Cheers Frenchy

Now it makes sense and hats off to Eduard for their research.

Not easy finding a photographic example though.
