I read that the first Land Rover was built on the frame and drivetrain of a Willys MB.

Correct. They were built on surplus Willys MB frames just after WWII.

Nice to see with a canopy, and a very useful addition to 50s modelling, though not necessarily a popular era for modellers. At least this kit will help ring the changes.

Can’t put in to words how happy these landrovers are making me.

Not quite. Only the prototype used a Jeep frame and axles - by the time series production began Rover had engineered its own parts so no Jeep components were used. Land Rover series - Wikipedia

Still, it was definitely inspired by the Jeep!

And a very useful vehicle it has been for most of its life, and yet, nowadays we have the massive practically 2T Wolf still pretending to be a Land Rover. What began as a handy, general purpose runabout is now a monster(!)

Similar to the rebirth of the Mini Cooper,
it should have been renamed Medium Cooper

I must admit Robin one can hardly recognise the behemoths that ostensibly are “Minis” these days; as it happens my own steed at the moment is a “Mini” but still on the small scale:

The latest iterations should, in my view, be called “Massive Coopers”.
