New tanks on the block

Howdy all! New to the form and modeling in general, so figured I’d show what’s in the factory. 1/56 Chi-Ha for bolt action and Atlantic 1/48 Shinhoto. Playing around with camo schemes, tried to emulate the yellow stripe camo as shown in another post in here (how I discovered the form actually), and a late war one on the Shinhoto. I know I have a ways to go, but I’m happy to be part of the hobby. Now, who’s got advice for painting tracks? These things can be annoying!

Spray paint the track prior to installation. I and others like Tamiya"s dark iron. Then do some dry brushing and weathering. Install and admire.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try. Any tips on installing the rubber tracks? I have trouble getting them all set sometimes

My SOP for tracks is wash with dish soap, rinse, dry. Wipe down with paint thinner , dry. (Some say you dont need to , but it doesnt hurt.) Base coat of rust (I use testor enamel) . Then depends on tanks system. If tracks have rubber pads, those get painted dark grey … Gunship grey… Guide teeth, dry brush steel. If road wheels are rubber I used dark grey where they contact the treads. If metal road wheels, dry brush contact patch with steel. Wash with flat black. Install. After weathering dry brush the points of contact with the road steel. (If rubber pads, dry brush flat black) Pic1: All steel tracks ona South African SHerman V AOP. The 2 IJA tanks look pretty good. Info: The yellow stripes were actually a recognition marking and only used until 42 (?) and only in the Philippines, East Indies, Malaya, Burma , China (?). PowerPoint Presentation (wordpress.com) Hataka makes a great IJA paint set. Used it on mine. Pic1: Type 97 Chi Ha Shinhoto and Isuzu Type 94 1.5 Ton Truck. 11th Tank Regt. Imperial Japanese Army. Thank you, and beautiful work on this vehicles! Especially like the foliage on the Ka Mi, gonna have to try to find some of that. I did indeed get the Hataka paint set. Took a while, but it was worth the wait. Both those tanks are Hataka colors. I knew there was various ideas about the significance and implementation of the yellow stripe, but did not know it was specific to those areas. I’ll definitely keep that in mind

I got the foliage from a vendor on ebay. Forget who. They are paper. Easy to work with. And cheap. Grey used on the type 2 was old White Ensign Yokosuka grey. (Each major, Yokosuka, Kure, etc had their own shade that they used during overhaul / rebuilds. No natter where built or location oflast major work the ship was painted the color of it’s most recent “home” ) Not sure of accuracy but sounded logical … and they were grey.

I seem to remember I got them from Canada. And they make a bunch of different types.
