New vehicle acquired 1:1

When I got back, I realised it had been left in FWD, don’t know if that made the steering heavier…It’s supposed to have synchromesh, but it seems to have gone between third and second. This isn’t such a problem, because you never use first, it is a crawler gear for steep inclines and towing heavy loads, e.g. 25Pdr Field Guns, really. It pulls away in second quite happily, so you can halt in third then knock it into neutral then down into second to pull away. There is no reverse on the gate. This is because it has a transfer box and you have to select forward or reverse before putting it into gear, so there are five forward speeds and five reverse, theoretically you could do 50 in reverse! It all takes a bit of getting your head around…it certainly confused the delivery driver! I’ve driven a Stolly, a Chieftain and an APC, but they were straightforward compared to this.

It’s actually a hoot, but a bit of a workout!
