Thanks, I’ll give it a try. I downloaded the instructions for the M51 dump kit and it shows using frame rails from the S sprue (shorter). The shorter frame rails also have the front axle slightly behind the longer one. I’ll be doing a mock up on the cab to see if there will be any more issues. At this point, I’d like to get 5 sprues of replacement parts from AFV Club so I can start the chassis over again using the M51 dump instructions.
Could you cut and file/sand the long chassis rails to remove it from the
parts you need to keep?
Since you don’t need to save both parts you can sacrifice the frame rails
to save the accessories.
No way, there are way too many small detail parts not to mention the crossmembers, etc. I need the 5 replacement trees worth of parts to do it.
Doesn’t sound like major problems, possibly wrong instruction sheet included. Not to be judgemental, but why did you go that far when you were aware there were different frames included before making sure which were the correct ones for your version? I have both instructions and they are very clear. If you got the wrong ones you would see the difference. Just a question. Wayne
I was following the instructions included with the M51A2 gun truck kit, they said to use the frame rails on the A tree, which were the long ones. The dump truck gun truck kit instructions are wrong. I know that now as I searched for the M51A2 dump truck instructions. Not having other M54 kits for reference, I assumed that the instructions that were included were correct. I’ll scan and post the 35351 kit instructions tomorrow.
No problem, I have one coming and will see which instructions they include.Might have been a misboxing. Anyway, not a major problem yet. Wayne
The instructions in my kit were for the M51A2 Dump truck gun truck but they have the chassis part from the M54 cargo truck when the chassis instructions should be from the M51 dump truck kit. If you use the instructions from the M51 dump truck kit to build the chassis for the GT, you should be fine. I made contact with AFV Club and will be sending them the documentation they asked for later today. I’d be very interested to hear what the instructions in your “Peace Maker” kit show.
Morning Warren, I just received a message from the seller letting me know that there might be a problem with the instructions and the correct ones to use, so it seems your contacting AFV Club has had an effect. It shows using S1 and S2 and removing 6mm from the front end of both, I checked the apc gun truck instructions and this is for if you don’t use the winch, so you could still use the frame you have you can use it to build a cargo version without the winch if you had cut it. Hopefully they are correcting the error in their later boxings. Thought you’d like to know. Wayne
Oh, and hang on to those short rails as they will work for the dump truck or a tractor version, which they may come out with. Wayne
Pawel, meant to say i would love the help with markings. Wayne
OK Wayne, I’d be glad to help you!
So we have ENG GP and 2ER 308 in 3 inch letters for the bumper numbers. We would also need hood numbers - any idea what these were? Can be a guessitmate, too… How do you want that thing with contract killing for the tailgate? What style of writing and the dimensions of the area to put it on?
And then there is that artwork - maybe I can get a tracing program to transform it for me to a printable pattern.
Have a nice day!
Paweł
As far as the hood numbers, the ones in the kit should be the same since it was the same truck, just a name change. Assuming of course that they didn’t use the same ones in all the kits. As far as the lettering on the back, it is like on the sides. If you look at the picture of the model on comment #4 you can see it above the tail gate. Thanks, Wayne
Now the sides and rear are going to be complicated. Here’s what CorelDraw can make out of the photos in this thread:
I either have to get better (high resolution) photos, get ChatGPT or some AI to work, or put in a lot of work myself…
Nailed it!
I appreciate whatever you can come with. It will be better than anything I could hope to do. Thanks again. Wayne
Love the spelling
See? AI didn’t really help here, but at least it got us a few good laughs.
@namengr - oh, we can come up with SOMETHING. At worst I’ll have to invest a few hours drawing each letter individually.
Or maybe somebody has some paid AI access and would clean up these images for me and Wayne?
Thanks in advance and have a nice day
Paweł
No matter what, I appreciate any and all help and thoughts. This is the greatest bunch of people as far as help and support that I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Wayne
