NEWS: Italeri 1/35 Kfz.305 Opel Blitz Type A 4x4

You can currently see the sprue layout of the “new” Opel Blitz on Italeri’s website. Seems like it has two new sprues and two (or one and a half) original sprues from their previous Opel Blitz. Shame about them using vinyl tires.

New Sprues.

Old Sprues (mostly bed parts).

Well, seems they did their work and have recycled less than two sprues from the old kit. The new parts look convincing.

Bad point… they have remade the old, perfectly shaped grill (narrower at the bottom like the real thing), into one with a wrong shape exactly as done by other brands… puzzling to say the least. So back to scrounge into the old Italeri or spare parts box.

And at 25€ in Spain, worth to pick.

Oh goodie, they’ve kept the horrible old tilt canvas!

Any idea when this will hit the US market? I talked to Brian over at Scale Reproductions in Louisville just today and he has heard nothing about it from either Italeri or MiniArt.

Based on Gino’s posts of the sprue shots it looks like Italeri is trying to reuse some of their old tooling. I consider that to be unfortunate.
The old load box will be OK but that means we are again stuck with that horribly sculpted old canvas tilt. I wish the til more accurately represented what appears on the box artwork.

Also to my eye the cab and bonnet are not properly proportioned. (Acceptable but not exactly correct.) Hood appears a bit too long and too squared off. The grill is not tapered properly and the front bumper seems too angular, whereas the real Blitz front bumper is more rounded.

These are all just first glance comments but i have sort of lived with the Blitz 4x4 both model and real for many years now. The Blitz 4x4 and the Mack NO have both been my pet projects down through the years.

Here is the link to my Blitz walk-around thread in the KirMaker archives:

Well as Italeri have never done a 1/48 SM.79 and all the press show new tooling I would say it is. They did do a new tooled 1/72 SM.79 some years ago.
The only other 1/48 SM.79’s are from Classic Airframes, Trumpeter or Smer, with Eduard and Flashback being reboxed Classic Airframes.

I was merely using theSM.79 as an example of the difference in wording. Indeed, as l said, this isn’t a fully new tool, but has new and old parts whereas the SM.79 is all new.

Checking the sprue photos Covkid is totally correct; the Italeri is only a partial retooling.

As to the MiniArt offering we will have to wait and see. MA has been churning out so many good looking Blitz 2x4s of late I can’t wait to see what they do with the 4x4!

It is a good time to be alive - model wise!

Wholeheartedly agree with your last comment. I would probably opt for the Italeri kit if it was a choice between them and Miniart - not because I have anything against the latter (I love their figures) but I know I do not have the skills to do a Miniart vehicle kit justice.
