The resurrection of his modeling mojo was my thought so I had no need to ask.
To call that an operation, is a bit grande, I recon…
Although, after 2 years…
Thanks again guys, clearly I can’t get much past you. You’re fairly close about “Lazarus”, particularly the Dutch slang & the lazy aspect. Not so much directly religious, but yea verily bretheren it is partly a reference to the miracle of my model-making revivication.
But you know me, I like to add layers of innuendo & double/triple meanings. The thread title does indeed have another meaning which will hopefully become clear later….and Erwin yes it will be a slight stretch to call it an “Operation”, but let’s see what you think when I’m done. Glad to have you along for the ride

Well, I can’t talk for the others, but I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with!
You’ve got my attention…
So here we are, two coats of aluminumiumum enamel brushed onto the tractor. It serves as both a primer & for chipping wherever I scrape the soon-to-be-applied artists’ acrylic overpaint - el cheapo student quality natch….
And There Will Be Mud.
Meanwhile I’ve finally finished building the trailer & contents too, but parked them because I haven’t decided if they’ll even figure in the vignette. The female tractor driver is ideal for my purposes but I also need some specialised extras, the search continues.
For the record and contrary to my earlier carps - nice kit MiniArt, overall it was fun.
Just a WIP paint-wise, the final product will be a much more faded/corroded/muddied version - the shiny t*res are a give-away. The wheels aren’t glued on yet because there must be mud inside the mudguards. And one of the roof supports got launched during a brief encounter with a paintbrush, not sure if I’ll keep the roof at all, but if I do it’ll be with sturdy wire supports.
I wasn’t sure how to deal with the PE Lanz nameplate on the tractor’s snout, kinda winged it with extra-fine sandpaper teasing off my trusty el cheapo artists’ acrylics. MiniArt’s paint guide says the base colour should be the rusty red colour but I only just noticed. Screw it. More to the point, it would’ve been really helpful if MiniArt had actually specified in their Instructions the technique I used. Without any clue a less experienced modelmaker would’ve spent hours trying, and doubtless failing, to actually paint the raised lettering, it’s like 0.05mm raised embossing.
Anyhow heading for warmer climes (sub-tropical Queensland) tomorrow for a couple of weeks to escape frigid Canberra, looking forward to taking the paints etc. along too – they should dry faster.
Nice progress mate!
Somehow I cannot get my head around anything frigid (climate wise) in Oz at all… What do you call frigid?
Well minus 7C overnight for starters. It’s early/mid-winter here & Canberra seems to be in direct line with Antarctic winds that drop snow on the Snowy mountains and frost with us. I’m English so it doesn’t bother me, but my wife’s a Sydney girl who’s used to a very different climate.
Yes, I can totally relate to the removal-ordeal.
And now I am wondering whether carefully heating/warming up of the outer sprue might negate some of the tension on the parts and connectionpoints thereon, making removal a less tense job.
That is cold indeed…
For Dutch measurements, that is ![]()
That’s an interesting theory Ron, it might just work – on some things. But I think in my example the part was already fractured – it really did just fall into two pieces without any pressure or stress as I was trying to glue it in place.
MiniArt piles so many sprues into one bag it’s just asking for trouble - I found the same thing when I built their Trams, the same parts were broken in both of the two boxes. That said, I’m not sure it would make any difference if they divided sprues into multiple bags, they’re still jammed into a box barely big enough to hold them.
Yep and the one problem with snow in the Netherlands is there aren’t any slopes to ski down
It does surprise some people that southerly parts of Oz experience really cold weather – in fact we have a thriving ski season further south, while at the same time it’s possible to go way north to a tropical paradise. But don’t tell anyone, otherwise they’ll all want to come ![]()
Yep forecast 8 c tomorrow with -6 c overnight.
So Tim is just sodding off to sunny Queensland eh?! Oh of course blame it on the spouse! ‘Oh yes I’d stay but the missus, you know, she’s making me go’.
Where’s that famous English spirit to tough it out? I hear echoes of We shall fight them on the beaches….of Queensland…and only if it’s warm enough….
(For other members, Sam lives around 2 miles from me) Yep it’s all my wife’s fault – but I also claim the other famous English spirit of tactical withdrawal, y’know like Wellington hiding his squares behind the ridge at Waterloo.
Snow in the Netherlands??
Hah! 2cm’s of it and the entire country is on its rear end!
We just had midsummer and now I am counting down to Christmas and the subsequent season. I prefer snow and -20C to +25C and blazing sun.
Oh… I moved 1600km higher north, btw… ![]()
The challenge with Oz, is that almost everything that doesn’t walk on 2 legs or can fly tries to kill you… ![]()
…and some of those will have a good stab at homicide!

Cheers,
M
I’m with you… it’s currently +31C (plus humidity) here and climbing. How long to winter…?
@Dioramartin - Tractor looks great!
That’s looking good… great job on a tricky build.
Should be next week for you. Just starting our summer 37c with a real feel of 42c. That’s cooling down from 100d/110d around noon today. Was a little warm on my walk then.
