I used some damp varnish and got a very frosty looking result. Instead of gloss varnish as advised I used a very very very thin coat of Revell Africa Brown, much more thinner than paint.
The result is a bit over the top. Any ideas for salvaging the build?
You could try misting light earth over most of it, as if it’s been driving along on a wet, mud covered street. There are countless photos of tanks appearing like this. This mist can cover virtually the whole tank.
First off, I like weathering. But yes there are limits.
Remember the battle field is a dirty place. And if your idea was that this tank was deployed in a “dirt” (As opposed to a forested or desert) area, I think your fine.
“Wear” weathering is different, places where a person walks will have more paint worn down and the bare metal will show through (Like raised areas) than side skirts…
If you planning on striping the paint, here is a couple of things to try. What do you have to lose? try to tone down the color with a lighter color. It will give the impression of sun fade. If you don’t like that, spray the whole tank in matt black, and repaint.
I don’t see why you would need to, unless the paint has gone on really thick. If you want to repaint a model, just go over what’s already on it with a new base coat and proceed from there.
I think it looks good. Looks like it ran in a very dry and dusty environment your dust wash looks a lot better then some of the “out of the sludge” washes that look they fell in an open sewer drain.
