Panda EROC Cougar JERRV

Finished my Panda Cougar JERRV. They were fielded by Canada in 2007 to counter IED threats in Afghanistan. It was widely used by engineers and EOD teams for route clearance(EROC) in Kandahar.

The horrible Panda kit was used, with the GPK turret from Legends, wheels from Def Model and T antennas from Real Model. This was built for the Tough Muv’er campaign.

Very nice build! I know it seems like a horrible kit, but if your main complaint is the big gap between the upper and lower hulls, there’s a very easy fix for it that most people don’t know about. While I had nothing to do with this kit, I do know that one of our good friends here on Armorama sent Panda the dimensional data and photographs that I did on this vehicle back in 2008 - without my consent. That’s why the same registration number for the Navy vehicle is on their decal sheet. But the upper and lower hull problem is the only one I’m aware of having built it myself. What other problems did you have?

The hull and interior panels is one thing, the other overall fit and attachment points of the kit are horrible.

Locator holes not in the proper spot or too small, the fuel tank and spare wheel holder attachment points on the hull aren’t deep enough for the glue to set properly. The slots for the doors don’t line to the hinges on the doors, all the windows and clear pieces are over sized. I don’t expect perfect shake and bakes but it’s just a real dog of kit to get assembled. The suspension oddly enough was actually the easiest part and had the most positive fit and finish. The upper hull is a mess.

This was my second attempt to build one the first one ended up in the junk.

Great model, I like it a lot. Very subtle weathering, no exaggerated color modulations or whatnot… just the way I like it.

Well done!

Love the model I got to recover our EOD team’s cougar after they hit an IED removing the left front tire assembly, completely from the vehicle while driving thru a wadi. What does EROC stand for. I spent ten years following around the engineers doing route clearance and haven’t heard this one.

@Brantwoodboy EROC is Expedient Route Opening Capability, it was a engineering team consisting of the JERRV, Husky and Buffalo and was used to provide mobility to Canadians in Afghanistan.

@Maki Thank you for the kind words, my references showed no chipping on the CARC paint and very monotone colour. I tried to stick as close to them as possible.

@Johnnych01 thanks for the kind words!

Nice I got to give a demonstration to a Canadian higher up officer on the Huskey at Kandahar. Depending on when you were there you might have worked with my unit. We ran Huskeys, Buffalos and RG31MK5E.

Maybe a dog but you did and awesome job. Looks great!

@Brantwoodboy I was fortunate/unfortunate enough to not have been old enough to serve in Afghanistan. I have the Panda Husky which I will eventually get to, I like the MRAPs and engineering vehicles that were used in the conflict.

DON’T DO IT. Get the AFV Club kits they are much better the Panda Huskey is missing some of the most important parts and is the only kit I have ever walked away from not finished. Don’t throw it away though the tires are better so use them on the AFC Club kit. I got to go to FT Leonardwood and learn how to work on the Buffalos, and I have also pulled Huskey’s out of the shipping containers that they come in and built them.

A real beauty :+1::+1:, and after reading your remarks of how bad this kit is I am glad I have the Meng version in my stash

There are those who will complain that the Meng hood is noticeably too long. Although I helped them with the kit, the mistake is not mine. I sent them exactly the same measurements that I sent to Cromwell Models, who got it right.

It seems that not only the Meng hood is too long! All the truck looks 8 or 9 mm too long.

The Panda kit looks way more accurate if you use on line blue prints and your photos Rob.
