Panzer III J question

Hi all,

Just have a quick question about the spaced armour on the Panzer III. I’ve been trying to find out when it was first factory fitted to the ausf J. I’ve seen photos of the L60 without the spaced armour and also the L42 with it fitted. I am assuming it appeared after the first L60 equipped J’s were produced and was retrofitted to older L42 tanks. Is my understanding correct?

April 1942 was when they added 20mm spaced to the mantlet and superstructure front. The L/60-equipped tanks started rolling out in December 1941 (Sd.Kfz 141/1).
