The panzee 3J’s turret roof has a small hatch in front of the copula. Some references say it’s periscope port, for the crew to extend an observation periscope out of. I assume it’s portable, possibly hand held periscope, and not a fixed extendable periscope. Does anyone know which model of periscope is normally used for this?

This hatch is the signal port hatch. The signal port was used to fire signal flares for communication if needed. Each Panzer III was equipped with 24 rounds for the 2.6 cm caliber flare pistols.
