My F-4E slowly takes shape …
In the radom I have glued 46 grams of steel balls. I hope that will do the job … ![]()
I love phantoms (no alone obviously) so I’ll jump in. Something tells me I won’t finish it in time, but I’ll give it the old college try. I just started a Fujimi 1/72 RF-4C this week. Will post pics later today or tomorrow. Thanks.
Here is where I am starting. Nothing done except fuselage spot welded together with CA.
Markings will be Caracal Decals RF-4C 65-0905 “Tumbleweed”, 11st TRS, Udorn RTAFB
Excellent choice. Welcome aboard.
Made some decent progress in the last two days.
First time building one of these Fujimi F-4’s. Overall fit is pretty good except where the lower fuselage insert goes, but that looks like it can be made to fit if one takes their time . Have a pair of wolfpack bang seats on hand and ordered eduard colored PE interior set that hopefully I can make fit as it is designed for hasegawa… ![]()
Going forward with a satin overcoat. However, some complications have cropped up. I tried spraying Humbrol Clear Satin Varnish from a bottle and it came out very poorly. Even after shaking it thoroughly, it left gritty white residue everywhere, almost like a poorly mixed matte varnish.
Luckily I tested on some accessory parts first and not the main model.
I tried adding some Future on top but it didn’t really improve much. I’ll probably try some more things before resorting to sanding and repainting. Glad there is till time left on this campaign.
Adding Eduard color PE to cockpit. Probably should have chosen a different base color to paint the cockpit tub
. The fujimi phantom cockpit is not exactly accurate. The back seaters office is particularly inaccurate and it seems way to deep and the IP is way to far forward. Oh, just having fun here. Gonna use the one piece canopy any way…
A lot of time has passed now since my last posting here, so I think it’s time for an update of my THK Phantom.
After primer first camo was USAF Medium Grey FS 36270 from Vallejo …
Then today I airbrushed Medium Gunship Grey FS 36118, also Vallejo …
First job now is to eliminate the overspray here and there … ![]()
Looking good Torsten
Looks great. The grey was always a good colour scheme on the F-4.
Nice…
My turkish F-4E has made good progress since my last posting here and I want to show you how it looks like at the moment. After the usual paint corrections I demasked the bird and added most other parts …
The landing gear is on, though not all doors attached yet, but …
the Phantom is no tailsitter!

46 grams of weight in the nose do their job well!
I am starting my build for this campaign. I have decided on a color scheme, but the colorful markings is actually from a Phantom that fought and got kills above North Vietnam. I am planning to put it in flight next to a North Vietnamese MiG-21. Let’s see - my plans sometimes change ![]()

Excellent choice!
I’ve made a little bit of progress on mine today. Got the forward fuselage together and drilled out the location holes for the pylons.
Almost done. Got a satin coat on (not as satiny as I expected) and most of the fiddly bits done. Just needs a bit of weathering and oil stains.
The one thing I still can’t make up my mind about is what to do for loadout. I’m trying to do something that would have been used while on the carrier. I can’t find a single photo of an AIM-7, and only one or two pics with a single AIM-9. Lots of photos with bombs and maybe one of the rocket pods. Looks like it was either AAM or AtoG but not both most of the time?
My NATO Diesel is almost finished. All decals on and sealed. They went on like a dream. Only the pitot tube is still not added for the well known reason …

Next update should be the finished model, sure by the end of this week … ![]()
Looks terrific ![]()
Looking great!
A new week and a new project both begin today for me… I am going to build Hasegawa’s 1/48 F-4N for this GB.
with these 3D decals for detailing the seats
and these decals for markings
today I started building with… big surprise… the cockpit
It’s gonna be a few days before I will have the time to start painting the cockpit and will have another update worth posting…
Nice start Carlos. You are doing a Grey Ghost right? ![]()
