I am looking for recommendations for book containing USA M55 SPH’s operating in Germany or elsewhere in Europe in late 50’s and early 60’s.
Any thoughts appreciated.

It’s not a book but www.usarmygermany.com usually has something
I will look, tks. I am hoping to find pics of M55s traveling on roads and cross country.
Tankograd has this one.
Tankograd Militar Fahrzeug - Special No. 5026 - Panzerhaubitzen Der Bundeswehr M7-M52-M44-M550M109: Modern German Armoured Self-Propelled Howitzers
Or being driven? The Tankograd book has both:
But due to what was termed “maneuver damage” I don’t imagine they drove that beast on the road much back then if they could avoid it. Usually railed to training sites like Graf, then tranpsorted on trailers, and when driven usually only during large exercises like REFORGER. An MLC 50 vehicle could certainly tear up roads quickly, and its size would have made driving on narrow German streets a nightmare.
Having the driver in that big turret looking down at the road can’t be easy either. I got to get into one in a now-closed museum in Danville VA and while it’s cool to look at there’s no way it was easy to operate.
Very nice, thank you! Added to my list.
These are most interesting with thanks to you and the Internet. Regarding comments about driving and road damage, I would not want to be near one in motion.
You’re very welcome. ![]()
