Italeri had a couple of jewels among the rough stuff. This kit and the Opel Blitz.
Yes and the Horch and M24 still look very good at this point.
I will claim that 1970s/early 1980s Italeri kits are easily the best of their era in 1:35. Yes, Tamiya had better fit — but the Italeri ones were far more detailed, and often more accurate too. It’s only later that the quality declined to the point where people nowadays think anything Italeri is mediocre. Whether this M47, the Leopard 1A4, M4A1 Sherman, Crusader, 105 mm howitzer, Panzers I and IV, or whatever, they’re all basically sound kits.
I’m currently building a Crusader II after just having finished the Crusader III — the latter for the same group build as Ron is making this M47 for, the former because I enjoyed building the Mk. III
I’m sure the Bronco ones are better in many ways, but aside from 1970s fit (read: few locating pins) and the moulds being a little tired, I would definitely recommend these.
@SSGToms @metalhead85 Thanks, gentlemen!
It really is a nice kit. Had only Italeri included some interior and a shieldcover it would have been a fantastic kit.
But I consider mine to be done. I added the decals from Star decals, which are really nice, albeit quite thick. I also added some Tamiya antennas, since the long one had the right base.
Weathering I kept very light, since it is a garisson vehicle. I added a dark (pin)wash, except for the motordeck, which I wanted to pop out a bit more, and the runninggear, which always gathers a lot of dirt ‘n dust no matter where the vehicle is.
Then a light drybrush with buff to bring out details more, a touch up with black on the rubber chevrons, a whisp of exhaustsoot and rust on the trackends and done!
No figure, since I could not find a suitable one and no base, since a square of cobblestones would add very little to the final result.
Very nicely done Ron!
Sharp looking Tank Ron, nice to see a trac that’s not weathered and chipped.

Excellent build and paint.
@agincajun @SSGToms Thanks! It was a fun build; quick, “easy” and satisfying.
Turned out great!
Nice to see another M47 finished in what may not be the most obvious nationality to most people. My M47 is happy to have a brother!
Happy Portuguese M47 noises
Glad you like it!
I was really looking for something else for the “NATO”-shelf, other then US, UK or German and not in OD or NATO 3-tone either.
nice job
i like it
