Prepping a metal gun barrell?

Any advice ? Can i spray it with XF black ?

You could but the paint would scratch off until you can seal it with something else. You need a primer suitable for use on metal.

I always prime metal gun barrels first. I’ll use either tape or latex rubber frisket to mask off where it glues in, then hit it with primer. This is often the first thing I do. Then it sits for a week to fully cure, then I can build with it.

I use metal barrels whenever available. I run a 400-grit sanding sponge around them to give the primer something to stick to. I swab them down with isopropyl alcohol to remove any residual oil. I prime with Mr Surfacer 1500 back from a rattle can. Once painted, I use a finger cut off of a glove on the end of the barrel to protect the muzzle from knocks and bumps.

Good modeling!
