Often there’s a BFD (big fracking deal) made out of “color accuracy”.
Here’s my “in the field” actually at the hobby desk “experiment” with some RAL 8012 colors or would be colors on the bottom belly plate of the old Tamiya Tiger 1.
-
Mr Paint/MRP RAL 8012 red oxide primer (acrylic)
-
Tamiya Hull Red, which I’ve always been told was absolutely
Wrong! -
Panzer Aces (Vallejo) Sombras Carne aka Shadow Flesh
The three paints vs paint chip in Tomáš Chorý’s Wehrmacht Heer Camouflage Colors 1939-1945 reference book.
To my eye, #1 MRP RAL 8012, looks like the better exact match to the color chip under my desk “daylight” ring light. However, all three look close enough to me to be used as RAL 8012.
I like the slightly lighter #3 Sombras Carne best as it “feels” lightened to scale or slightly weathered to my eye for a 1/35 model. The Vallejo/Panzer Aces color brush painted much better than the Mr Paint RAL 8012 or Tamiya Hull Red.
Interested to hear anyone else thoughts on RAL 8012 color and alternatives with different paints etc.
Edit - seems of interest…
