Have a feeling I’ve asked this question before, or at least a variation thereof, but I can’t remember…
I’m building RFM’s 3in1 Abrams TUSK kit. The sprue offers up a choice of x-stamped front guards or plain - is there a general timeline attached to these WRT plain was fitted before x-stamped or vice versa?

The X fenders were part of the M1A1 upgrade. The original M1s used the smooth fenders. Since M1A2s were originally built on older M1 chassis, they originally had the smooth fenders. As replacement fenders were ordered, they started getting the X fenders as well. So a late M1A2 SEP could have either type.
