Spring is finally here and metal detecting season is on the doorstep, so I am hurrying to clean up the workbench which is cluttered from winters projects.
The main job has been making a miniature based on a painting made by the British war painter Stephen Bone. The wooden portal of a Soviet POW cemetery that was made in 1945.
Using something like this for a model is incredible- both the model itself and what it is mounted on tell a story- fascinating! I particularly like the contrasting colors of red, pink, the earth and vegetation versus the dull weathered metal of the wire coil.
