"Reflections of my Life" - Cambodia, May 1970

I’ll consider that. I won’t be back at this for another week, so I’ll mull including a portion of a bunker.

Maybe in a corner? Cutting at an angle across the corner between two edges?
As always: Just suggestions to get your own creativity rolling.

A section of bunker going off-scene would give some height to the ground and suggest that there is much more going on…

I agree all the soil in RVN was not red, area around Cu Chi, Iron Triangle, War Zone ‘C’ was generally a yellow/gray. Spent some time in Quan Loi area, and it was the red stuff we all know and love. I honestly don’t remember the color of the soil in Cambodia (May 1970), too busy at the time. Definitely some very thick vegetation and really nasty swamps.

I’m making some progress. I wanted to have this done before the New Year, but I keep thinking of details that need to be included in terms of individual gear. I also remembered that Bravo 6 made a “Rubber Lady” set, and I really wanted to include the air mattress on the uneven ground. Note that not everything I have complete is in these photos.

Per your suggestions, I cleared some brush and included a small bunker. I stewed on this for some time. I didn’t build this with a bunker in mind, so finding a place to put it (and deciding if I really wanted to include it) was a challenge. Being an infantryman, I had a hard time just plopping a bunker into a scene. Its placement had to make sense in terms of potential fields of fire and a purpose. Looking at the original photos closely, it was hard to determine the size and purpose of the bunkers I could see. You can see the tops of them. They aren’t large and the roof logs are exposed, so they weren’t intended to provide much in the way of overhead cover and protection from artillery. So the way I see it, the bunker I placed is for a trail watcher; large enough for one or two men and not meant for sustained fighting.

This will be my last full mockup before I’m done. I’ve fiddled around with the figures enough that I’m getting concerned about rubbing the paint too much and the number of times I’ve dropped them getting them to stand in place. The additional accessories will include pistol belts, bandoleers, an additional loose jungle jacket, an air mattress, a Claymore bag, G.I. trash and another poncho liner.

You have created a beautiful diorama with attention to the small details.
