RFM M1A2 SEP V2 build

Thanks Gino. I’ve seen the one you did a few times now in posts. Looks neat, and a great gift for the Sqn Comd.
I was pretty happy with that brown from AK… it’s not exact, but I think with a diluted wash of AK OIF OEF, it will dull it down just enough …

You can see how the hot jet exhaust has burned the CARC coating right off, leaving only bare metal; very little rust, and leaving a reddish-brown ring of burned paint behind where the CARC hasn’t been vaporized.

This suggests that the black carries across the corner from the left edge of the black on the turret front to the rear edge of the black on the turret’s left side.

Yeah I had noticed that as well…I was going to try and include that as best I could on my finish as well.

Also, when you look a bit more at it, The areas I have ringed in red appear to be a totally different shade of Tan ? to me it does anyway.

And the area ringed in blue looks like its the brown cam but mega faded almost to the point its has worn away completely ?? You can clearly see where the brown is around the tow hook area, then it fades as it goes across to the RH side in the blue ring.

Yeah true. The more you look you can see little areas where the paint wraps over… 99% sure it’s a very dull dark brown though … Not black ??

It is a chocolate/dark brown.

Yep, those are replacement parts, pretty new looking. They will fade with time.

That’s what I thought. I will try and do that on mine for those 2 areas, to give it some different tones

Going to hit the A2 with the chocolate brown tomorrow… Just been getting it ready and masking a few areas
After some careful study of the limited pictures of the 11ACR OPFOR wagons (shame I can’t find more) you can see pretty well that the brown wraps up from the sides over the hull top and has what looks like an even coverage.

The turret is slightly different… It looks to definitely wrap up over but only for a very limited distance on the turrets roof. For instance the rear third has no brown at all, the central side brown areas go up over but don’t take in the cupola or loaders MG area.

I will use a little bit of artistic licence on some brown areas on the hull and lessen them a bit or change the angle of the cam to allow for the black decals as I won’t be getting any tan/sand coloured ones like in the images. With all that said, I should be able to get a good representation of the cam scheme… Major difference will be the CROWs and it being forest green… ( Or AK NATO green- I can’t remember which one I used now ) …

I know someone was asking about the brown color on the 11th ACR Abrams. I’ve found that the Mahogany surfacer primer from Mr. Color will yield a nice chocolate-like brown that could work.

That looks a nice option as well. I have the AK here already, so will go with that for this one though. I didnt even know they did a mahogany colour !!

Using it on my Merkava Mk.2B build to see if it darkens the paint I mixed up for it.

I used Replikator’s formula for “Lebanon Grey 1982” of 1 part Buff and 1 part medium grey.

Chocolate brown top cam is on… A few bits of minor overspray where I didn’t mask it up properly… Easily fixed…

Pretty happy with how it went, used some artists licence in a few areas… detailing next

Bone question … what colour would the ammo boxes be on the front of the turret side bins ?

NATO green. The ammo cans are not part of the tank, there are simply ammo can holders there.

Nice job on the camo. Just for reference. This is what the Mahogany Surface Primer look like.
