Setting up new hobby room

Well just moved into a new apartment, my stash took a cull before the move and now to set up my new hobby room. Started to unpack, still some boxes in my truck to unload. No bench or shelves so need to organise those, so no bench time until I get a bench and chair setup. Nice and light and airy for painting so that’s a vast improvement over what I had before.

As I see it.

  1. The room tis a bit small for the stash. It needs some room to breath.
  2. Seems like you will have to incorporate the stash as a working member of the bench. The boxes can hold up the bench, become the base of your spray booth station and a stool to sit on.
  3. You can insulate the exterior wall by storing the rest of the stash against it.
  4. When the wife grumbles you can point out the benefit’s of the “furniture” you made and the energy savings that will accrue do to having a model stash!

Greg there’s a lot more space than there looks, there’s also an alcove to the right not in the photos as it’s mostly got my jackets, still packed clothing and empty boxes in it.
Priorities, unpack the kits before clothing right?

Looks good!

I highly recommend buying a plastic chair mat because you have carpet and it will catch the fallen kit parts and also make it easier to move a chair with rollers around on.

May I suggest a tempered glass “mat”. I went thru several of the, at least to my way of thinking cheap, vinyl/plastic mats and they do not last very long and tend to bunch up after some use on carpet. I have had a tempered glass mat for the last two years with absolutely no problems. $89 at Amazon, 46”x36”x0.25”. I actually have two, one for my computer desk and one for the model build area. Unfortunately I can’t post a link, just search “tempered glass floor mats for carpeted floors”.

Yep!

Don’t use the boxes as insulation, moisture will collect between the boxes and the exterior wall since this is where the temperature gradient will be.

Walls are all lined, but racking will go against the inner walls anyway once I get some.

Any modelling until set up will have to be done on a coffee table. So just easy to assemble bits like my wargaming stuff, just get it to the ready to paint stage.

I had a room full like that before I retired from Alaska, a huge reference library too, gave away a ton of kits and books and magazines before we moved to Las Vegas, but I still moved with a lot of stuff.

I have about 20 kits in my stash. I know … that’s rookie numbers.

I’m desperately trying to finish all my many half built models, it’s stressing me out now :face_with_spiral_eyes:
I’m really forcing myself to work on only one at a time, and it’s actually working out well
