Howdy, my painting skills have now improved enough to try some Hornet heads. Who’s a good source for them ?
Also, any tips or techniques for mounting them on Dragon & Master Box figures?
Many thanks in advance !!
Michigan Toy Soldier shop has them I believe. You could also check Spruebothers; not sure about them.
As far as mounting them on plastic figures, I use CA glue. Sometimes I drill a hole in the neck and body and pin them but not often. Superglue should work fine. I use zap a gap.
Also depending on the figure you are using, I have found you may have to drill out the neck area to accept the Hornet head if it’s too shallow. The Hornet heads have longer necks sometimes.
Hi Tom,
‘Michigan Toy Soldier’ has been my go-to distributor here in the US and of A for several years. Good customer service by e-mail (no affiliation). Keep in mind, ”available” does not mean “in stock.” It seems no matter where you order Hornet Heads and/or Hands, it usually take several weeks for delivery.
As far as mounting the heads in styrene, I’ll refer you to the currently running campaign, ’Wow you’ve got a great figure!’ you’ll find some very useful information there — good tips on figures in general. I’ll be posting a Hornet Heads and Hands SBS very soon. You’re more than welcome to join-in.

I second what Mike said and look forward to his SBS. Come join and have fun.
My new goto instead of super glue is Liquitex Gloss Gel medium (red label).
That’s is where I have ordered my Hornet products from in the past.
The Ultra Cast website layout looks very appealing — easier to search/navigate than most. With regards to delivery time, any idea if they have a good “in-house stock” of Hornet products, or once again, are they just another distributor?
PS: Some folks have large kit stashes. I have a “Hornet Nest!”
That sounds like a good idea Ryan. Does the gel medium bond resin to plastic ok ? May have to try it….
Lol….I do have a large Hornet head stash along with hands and dome arms. Body parts galore !
I don’t know why it wouldn’t, I have used resin to resin
and @SdAufKla was using it for PE to plastic.
I order from Ultracast fairly regularly, though domestically obviously. As far as I’ve experienced their website stock is always accurate and everything is in house. Orders go in the mail within a day or two. Factor some delays for weekends and such as I’m fairly certain it’s being run out of the owner’s house. They’re very good at answering emails if you have any questions.
Biggest delays shipping wise are going to be with Canada Post and the backlog at the border.
Hi. I have two sets of hornet heads. Dougsmodels.ecrater.com. Just look under detail sets and books. Take care.
Holy Smokes !!! Thanks to everybody who responded with both tips and responses !
It looks like Michigan Toy Soldiers has the best selection.
Doug, I went to your web site and for the life of me I couldn’t find your sets.
Mike, I’ve been away from the site for quite awhile (new house + moving& selling) and the “Wow, you’ve got a great figure” campaign slipped by me but I will check it out along with Ultra Cast’s site.
Thanks again to all who responded !
