Many readers may not be aware that the volunteers from
the Baltic states were exempted as individuals from the
Nuremberg judgement on the Waffen-SS as a criminal
organisation, which basically ring-fenced the Baltic Legions
from the rest of the Waffen-SS - which is logical as they were
made up from volunteers - especially those from Latvia & Estonia
who were driven by the experience of having been occupied by
the Soviet Union in 1940 - and not by any racial or ideological
reasons - this of course was fully recognised by the victorious
Western Allies in their final judgement.
