Scorpion Miniature Models has new sets to upgrade and convert Stalwart from Airfix. Check them out!
Why can´t Airfix do their job correct? Glad that I don´t bought the basekit yet.![]()
I missed out on some of the Accurate Armour Stalwarts
but now I can fill those holes in the stash ![]()
Now for anyone tempted by the fitters version just be aware as well as some workshop tools etc you will need fridges, bunk beds just for a start😂
Magazines with photos?
Airfix views its target market as young modellers who aren’t too fussed about details - kinda like when I was a kid building old Monogram kits. If we wanted truly accurate models of the Stalwart we’d have to wait for MiniArt, AFV Club, etc to kit them at three times the price…
Having lent a hand CAD-ing up some of the parts for SMM, I can thoroughly recommend these sets for those wishing to go the extra mile!
Well, be it mounted on a Cent ARV, fitters 434 or the back of a Stally they weren’t nicknamed penthouses for nothing
. As for pictures I would imagine there might be some in the various Tankograd books. Regarding these updates it looks like SMM will be getting some more of my hard earned!!
Last night, Squadron sent out an email announcing the Airfix Stalwart is finally in stock. Squadron is the first of the stores I frequent to sell it!
If you look at the instructions to the set, it contains options and alternates to the Airfix configurations, extra detailed parts that are impractical to injection mold, details that would require more complex assemblies or parts than Airfix wanted to include, and yes, some corrections. What you are really asking is “Why won’t Airfix make old Tristar or or modern Miniart quality kits?” The answer seems to be, as it is for Tamiya, that they aren’t targeting the highly experienced, detail-seeking, perfection-demanding modeler as their customer.
Airfix isn’t doing anything wrong by choosing that marketing path, they just aren’t doing what you want.

Under the guise of food for thought, some notes on from Business 101, identify who your customers are, identify core demand, and sell to them. Price, what they are willing to pay tempered by what they can afford. MiniArt , Meng, Trumpeter, Takom, AFV/Club, not affordable by any young modeler, not affordable by some single incomes, 2nd income from wife these days needed to buy multiple $70USD and above kits.
But Airfix is on a roll diversity-wise in subjects more than I can fathom. Second but, hey am happy that they make an injection Stalwart. If I need more detail, guess I make that or buy that. At least I have something to work from.
Happy New Year
