Takom announcement of sorts, guess the tanks

Yes, Russian use of searchlights at Seelow Heights proved very counter-productive!

Hey, thanks for posting those images! there is another one of an M4A1E8 with T80 tracks also in a forest type location surrounded by trees.

The hull profiles are virtually identical, so either they are both welded hulls or neither are.

I vote for the latter.

I think both are cast hull Shermans. I’m hoping these turn out nice. Any idea when these get formally announced?

The thing that sticks out for me is the armored first aid kit box on the left (right as you see it) side of the vehicle.

M50 and M51 IDF Shermans did not have them, so could these be Korean War Shermans?

Edit: Thanks @Jakko for the correction to the armored fisrt aid box (not an infantry telephone, as i thought it was).

First aid box according to Son Of Sherman. Phone box should be in the rear.

That’s the armoured first-aid box, which got fitted from late in the Second World War.

M-1 Shermans did, though.

Here’s the outline of the right-hand silhouette overlaid over the one on the left:

The shapes of the two are identical other than the smoke launchers on the sides of the turret, the rounded bit above the turret, the shapes of the spare track blocks, and the shape of the tracks at the bottom. The track blocks are simply T66 vs. T80 (or perhaps T84, but I doubt it), and the rounded shape can’t really be much else than an Israeli searchlight sitting on the mantlet. I would say kit 2206 is an M-1 Sherman with HVSS, while 2205 is a late-war M4A1 with HVSS.

Yes, M50 and M51 didn’t have the armored first aid box. But IDF M1 still retained them, the image that @gtdeath13 posted on the 3rd post of this thread the M1 has both the searchlight, the dischargers on the turret, and still has the first aid box so that version of the IDF M1 is probably model #2206.

#2205 is probably going to be the M4A1E8 with T66 track shown in the very late ETO or occupation duty images posted earlier.

here’s another image of an M1 with the armored first aid box.

Maybe Takom had a look at my M-1, and figured other modellers shouldn’t have all the trouble, I had sourcing parts. Thus they present a late M-1 which can be build OOB

I “tried” to cobble together an M1 like that awhile back myself, like maybe 20 years ago. I based mine on the old DML M51. I don’t remember why I was so unhappy with it now. about 6 years ago I converted it into an M50 based on the M4A1 HVSS body and it turned out nice. I don’t think it’s 100% done but it’s close, I think it’s missing stowage, crew, and weathering. It’s in a box somewhere waiting to see the light of day again

I found it, it still needs all the detail paintwork, the crew, I haven’t built stowage yet, and then weathering. Lots of work still left on this one.

NOTE: it’s the Tamiya M1 hull, DML m50 turret, and DML suspension and tracks.

Very nice work, one can never have too many Shermans
I like the Tamiya M4A1 hull, though a bit basic in details, which aftermarket parts can then remedy. I really hope, the new Takom kit will be the new injection moulded “gold standard”.

So, not Bergpanzers, then?

This could help…

So you can add the fenders (in PE) to the A1 hull. Voyager makes a similar kit.

I can take some credit for one of these if it’s an M1: I used Tamiya and Academy parts to build one a few years ago too…

That’s impressive! How much of that is Academy? You used the old Academy M51?

No, because tanks are very hard to use up in the mountains.

I just took a look at it with the turret off cos I forgot what I used to do it, and it appears it’s a Tamiya hull and suspension from their M51 with a Tamiya turret out of one of their 'E8 kits. The engine deck and most of the lower rear hull are Italeri or Dragon, I can’t tell. The 'E8-based M51 next to it in the pic is on Academy running gear and lower hull with a Tamiya turret and Dragon upper hull. That’s probably what I was thinking of when I said the M1 was built up with Academy parts. The Academy M51 kit is a bit of a rat but the lower hull and running gear is useable for other stuff.
