Takom announcement of sorts, guess the tanks

Disappointed :disappointed:
More of the same :-1:t2:

Yup, you folks guessed right:

And this:

At least, they’re offering a lot of accessories to make them less boring?

Vertical, the the same 5/16 in/ft draft angle tilting the top forward.

Were the draft angles included in the drawings or were the surfaces drawn vertical in the knowledge that the casting process would add whatever draft angle needed?

There are several acceptable ways of indicating draft on drawings but the two most common are a) drawing the pieces with draft included and b) defining draft by note. Scheme a) requires more individual definition to make sure everything gets covered and to avoid confusion between draft surfaces and those angled for other reasons. Scheme b) risks the foundry putting the big end on the wrong side from where the designer wants it. This part does both:

Note the rib to the left is drawn tapered but the note also defines it. This gives better control of the shape without calling out every surface individually.

This drawing is not very good because it doesn’t give the taper instructions in a general note that applies everywhere but it it clearly is meant to apply everywhere, and it shows some surfaces with taper and some without, and even the same surface with a taper in the end view but straight in the top view.

I wonder if those will be RFM tracks. They certainly look very similar here, and Takom’s M48 tracks also bear an uncanny resemblance to the RFM Sherman tracks in design — enough that they made me think Takom and RFM could well be brands of the same company.

Suspension does not move in a prototypical manner but I suppose that’s the best that can be done without making it extremely complicated.

Yeah, eerily similar CAD image layout…
Maybe they hired the same illustrator? I don’t know…
The format looks so similar:

maybe they simply get “inspired” by each others designs?

Designers jump ship. With designs of course. It’s the way things are done in China.

It seems to move just like the Asuka HVSS bogies. The only way to make it move realistically would be to have the shock absorber in (at least) two parts, so they can telescope. Which would probably require a very thin-walled metal tube if it’s to be remotely to scale, making things even more complicated (and likely to get gummed up by paint, I suspect).

You need to have a working volute spring as well as the shock absorber.
The shocks might actually be the easiest part to simulate …

If the M1 comes with all the “pink” stowage that would be something I’d have to jump on.

These look gorgeous!

Of course it does, that is why it is shown in pink. It is not uncommon for Takom to include stowage such as this.

I disagree, at least regarding the Super Sherman. An IDF HVSS M-1 has never been kitted before (at least in plastic); Tamiya’s kit is of course VVSS.
And since this is the first Sherman kit for Takom, and Takom is typically very good and very fast with putting out multiple variants, I fully expect to see more kits in a very short amount of time, not least of all multiple variations of the M50 and M51.

Not to split hairs, Audie Murphy was on an M10 Tank Destroyer, as per his Medal of Honor citation.

Another way to look at this, is that this may mean a line of Shermans from Takom. I’m not super interested in either of these, but if Takom comes out with an M50 & M51, I’ll be very excited. Other Shermans would be nice too, though not critical, only because I am a fan of Takom.

You’re entitled to disagree it’s just my personal opinion.:mega:

I was disappointed on not seeing an M51.:slightly_frowning_face:

As for the new kits, I am sure there will be pages of verbal kit bashers and pages of corrections :face_with_monocle:

The most important point we can take part good or bad.

That’s what makes Kitmaker one of the best forums :trophy:

One variant I wish Takom would tackle should be the M32 TRV.

I know Asuka makes one, but I’d like to see other makers make some.
