Tamiya 1/35 IS-2 - First complete model

Hey guys, so after a year of practice and training on scrap models, I (think I) finally gathered enough proficiency to confidently complete my first ever real model.
So, here’s the first official model of my eventual collection that I completed, the IS-2
It’s obviously far from perfect. But I’m proud of how it came out.
Thoughts and criticism are both welcome and appreciated!

And it looks good!
If I were to make a comment, it would be to tone down the shiny tracks and cable with some brown washes and a slight drybrush of rust along the outer edges of the tracks.

Unless you enter competitions, the only one you need to please with your models is yourself, so it sounds like you succeeded.

That is all that really matters.

Thank you!
Yes, to be honest, I wanted to weather the tracks
But no matter how little I weathered them, they looked too weathered… And I just didn’t like how they looked
So, I figured I’d just go with chipping the raised surfaces by drybrushing so they’re not brand spanking new greasy black
In general, I tried several different weathering techniques on scrap tracks, but none of them looked good in my eyes…

Yes, very true. Honestly, I really really like it. I don’t care if it wins me any awards

Yup!
Currently I’m working on a Magach 6B, it’s very close to being finished
I’ll post it here once it is!

Congrats. Other than the shiny tracks already mentioned you did a great job. Paint work and overall finish top notch.:+1::+1:

Well I think you have done a fine job- and you are on the right track in terms of doing practice- work on the scrap pieces and try all sorts of techniques and products- that way you will see what works for you and what doesn’t.

Looks good, my biggest thing is the track slack between rollers, I think it looks like too much. What type of tracks were they (rubber, individual links, or link and lengths?)

Very well done. For your first all in kit, you nailed and should be rightly happy with it.
The tracks are an easy fix. I base coat mine either black, then a coat of tamiya dark iron and then pick out details like guide horns, track pads etc then finish it with a wash of MIG track wash.
Great build and well done again.

nice build for a first kit. for the tracks, there are a couple of good youtube channels, Nightshift’s and Coldemonspl do some excellent tutorials.

That looks great.

Nice job on the construction, I feel the same about weathering. It never looks quite right to me. Most of my builds are not weathered at all. I find them to be pleasing however they never win anything at local contests and I decided I just don’t care if I don’t win trophies. No weathering on my Emil.
