Tamiya 1/35 Swimmer wagon

so it looks like, well to me that tamiya has a new german swimmer wagon out and it’s more expensive than the original, so what’s the difference, what am i missing?

It´s a Schwimmwagen.

Now it has balloon tires so you can go dune racing.

I would have to go back and do some digging on the subject, but I remember running across a website or magazine article on the Schwimmwagen that described the version with the narrow tires as the original design using the same 133mm wide wheels as the KdF-wagen (the ancestor of the Beetle, produced in a 4-wheel-drive ‘kommandeur-wagen’ version), and the version with the wider 200mm tires as a version that was issued to the Waffen SS, with the Heer continuing to receive the 133mm-tired version. But until I can verify this from records, I can only throw this out as potentially fallible memory.

so basically there’s a price hike of 50% for balloon tyres….I will just get the older, cheaper kit lol

They had to inflate the price accordingly…

They are not Ballon tires, but wider than the common tires.

I know; I was just being jokey. A Schwimmwagen wouldn’t be my choice as a dune buggy in the first place.

Years ago I had pics of some guys who were using a schwimmwagen post war to travel across some desert, but can’t find those pics now.

From what I can tell from Tamiya’s website, the kit comes with new small arms, two new figures, option for a covered windshield, and the titular wide tires. It also seems they’ve added tool clips to the shovel and oars. I think it will be worth the price hike to have one of these in my stash.
