Tamiya - Cromwell MK IV

Matt & Ryan, thank you!

The MRP SCC#15 is factory thinned for airbrushing but it was cut 1 to 1 with MCLT this time. I liked being able to more slowly build up color coat etc.

With the short pin wires holding the narrow Cromwell Fruil together, I didn’t clean them as aggressively as normal. Had to applly burnishing fluid twice and still need airbrushed touch ups.

@Damraska , thought you’d find the following amusing…

Thought my Neoeco airbrush had been cleaned throughly…so imagine my surprise when going to mist Tamiya Lacquer Dark Iron on the tracks and the paint did this in the color cup…

…very happy I had gloves as nearly all of the paint in the color erupted from the color cup…of course I NEVER cap the color cup. Never had that happen before, have seen an air bubble :bubbles: in the Iwata before but never a paint geyser! The VL hasn’t done that either in ~30 years on the bench.

Always a first time for everything!

Torn the Neoeco down, needle was stuck. The Mr Hobby Tool Clean may be a little too hot for the seals as a bit of something (rubber o-ring?) not paint was on the needle when it came free.

Cleaned the Neoeco with lacquer thinner and it was back to working fine. Then I knocked the bottle of Tamiya Dark Iron off the bench and painted…the carpet randomly :unamused:

Anyway…I also managed to knock the Paasche VL off of the airbrush stand…twice. I think the whole airbrush side of the hobby room needs a major revamp soon as space is too tight.

Washes

Sanded and rubbed w/pigment

Will continue after installing tomorrow.

Ha ha! I have done the exact same thing to myself many times, usually self inflicted during cleaning.

Your Cromwell looks excellent so far, as one would expect.

Please pardon my absence for the last two months. I needed to take a break from the model stuff and let frustration levels come down a few notches.

I keep a plastic sheet under my painting area for just such a time.

Tracks look good. :+1:

There are days when the universe is telling you to go indulge in a different hobby! Still, those tracks turned out nice - hopefully the carpet is just as good…

Your planets were definitely out of alignment that day Wade!

Did any of these mishaps have to do with a family pet??

Richard, LOL! All had solid alibis…

Kali-Katt will ignore cat food and steal YOUR food like apple wood smoked BBQ…in a split second…but she’s good about leaving all hobby stuff alone.

Matt, I got to get those planets realigned with my new ratchet straps today!

Tom, thank you!

Agreed, focusing on the car hobby again is probably a good idea.

This diminished my enthusiasm so resumed my personal 2020 to 2022 boycott.

That’s not meant as political discussion. Just stating my annoyance with Hong Kong Post for suspending service at end of April for small orders. That’s their choice and I’m making my choice to avoid all of their merchandise whenever possible (again) like I did 2020 to 2022.

Anyway, based on 2024 model hobby expenditures, a decent LS2 stroker engine build for the 02 Z28 is possible from what’s in the garage. Have to buy pistons (Wiseco, USA) & lifters (Johnson, USA) plus a few things. My engine builder is working on the estimate this week.

Ryan, thank you.

The plastic sheet is a great idea! I have one at the build desk and obviously should add one at the paint desk.

Doug, thank you.

I feel that frustration with the hobby too. Side tracking from my primary interests and working on other stuff too often. Too many cool new kits diverted me from painting, I lost focus and had fun building. That wrecked the prior plan for this spring.

It’s against my religion to have fun building (j/k).

There’s a fair amount of mind game with the model hobby for sure.

… has helped a fair amount. It’s one of those simple common sense insight books.

It’s made me realize I stay in the comfort zone too much painting too many projects green, olive drab or winter white wash instead of honing skills getting Tri-Color schemes properly sorted…

That burns :fire: :flushed:

This I can muddle through but…

…NATO tri-color etc not so much…

…anyway back to regularly scheduled…monochromatic

Tracks went on today, they need more adjustment before the final bit of weathering.

Thank you, Ryan & Matt!

This one was entirely Armorama inspired and that’s part of what will keep it special to me on the display shelf! The Best Never campaigns are probably some of my favorites, lots of unique very cool “Doom by Design” sort of builds.

I appreciate the kind words.

Had unwelcomed trip to “Lindberg Land” home of the “Glum Glue Gobbers” a few days ago. Lost a part for several days, it’s finally found, so all is good now!
