Nice … Its actually a very effective cam scheme when you look at the top image and see how the wings blend,
Yeah, that’s much more difficult! Saw a f-18 done in the splinter and am tempted to try that.
The Tamiya decals are not the greatest, so thinking of masking and painting the walkway lines as don’t fancy trying to get the Tamiya decals to conform to all the rivets. Should take about the same time too.
Or just leave them off…
Yip, spotted a very nice build in arctic splinter on britmodeller, one for the future.
After much internal dialogue, I went for painting the walkway lines. Lots of tape and repositioning later, sprayed the original grey, Tamiya xf53 neutral grey. All pictures of this aircraft seem to show the lines disappear in the grey camo but that’s probably to do with the photography, so glad to say it shows up nicely on the original grey finish, as this was sprayed onto black.
Anyway, pretty happy with the result!
Noice, that is sharp. ![]()
So much masking, but your results look fantastic!!!
Thanks Ryan @Tank_1812 and @FlyEaglesFly glad you are enjoying the work!
Decals are finally on, didn’t enjoy the kit supplied ones. Aftermarket from now on for me unless supplied are a lot better than these!
Let the decals fully set, then gloss over them in preparation for panel line wash.
That is looking superb Jim. You have nailed it ![]()
It is easier then you think, just takes a little planning of the order of colors applied and then masked. I hope you give it a go as it is a killer scheme.
Looking great!
Thanks John and Brian. Have the washes on. A mid grey on the white and black, and a dark grey on the grey. Let all that set up and get some matt varnish on, then start putting this thing together properly. Still got exhaust to finish off and a few other details, but don’t think I’ll be doing any more weathering as they always look quite pristine.
Think you nailed it with the wash and weathering. ![]()
gorgeous.
Agreed, I think its one of the nicest schemes I have seen painted.
This is one of my favorite jets. Just looks like it can make 90 degree turns at 10 G’s
Excellent work!
Thank you all very much fellas!
Got matt coat on, Tamiya LP-23 50/50 mr Color thinner(not levelling), great stuff, and built up. Messed up the lights on the intake but will correct that at a later date. Difficult to photograph with the contrast in the camo as just using an iPhone, but included some desk top ones as well as neutral background. Another bucket list build ticked off.
Thanks for tagging along.
An absolute beauty ![]()
