So Guys im making Panther A from Tamiya. I have a sort of problems, so im begging for some Help. First one: can you guys Help me pick the best Things Like leaves, Pigments, mud and more in scale 1/35?
I hate to see a post like this go unanswered. So I’ll just give you some specific suggestions, based on my 60 years in the hobby.
Leaves -
Green Stuff World leaf punches. Punch your own, 3 or 4 at a time, and save a lot of money. Plus you can make thousands, any color you want.
Pigments -
Ammo by Mig or AK Interactive pigments. They come in a myriad of colors and are very good products.
Mud -
Smart Mud XL 2.0 by VMS Products. Just the best, most realistic, easy to use mud product available. This stuff is amazing.
I can’t really suggest every product you need for everything, I can only answer your questions.
Thank you very much
Some solid advice above, from Matthew. I can’t really add anything other than agree. Or just one thing, VMS makes pigments as well (and many other interesting stuff), in case you want to save on shipping ordering other items.
Before worrying too much about leaves and mud, you are aware that the ancient Tamiya Panther A has an awful lot of accuracy issues aren’t you? Or maybe that’s why you are asking about mud and leaves, to camouflage the issues with the kit? Just a few I remember, having made it a couple of times, the small wheel behind the sprocket on each side to keep the track from throwing is missing, the front drivers visor is plain wrong, the overall dimensions are out and some of the detail is pretty crude. It lacks and needs Zimmerit and there are no screens for the engine deck intakes. The tracks are very toy-like as they don’t have any internal detail - they were meant for the original version of the kit with an electric motor. I’m sure others can pitch in with more that I’ve forgotten. I have built one which I’ve tried to correct what I could by robbing the spares box for tools and the turret machine gun mount, made up some intake screens, applied putty for Zimmerit and scrounged the missing bits from the leftovers of other, better Panther kits, as well as using Tamiya’s separate track links. It sort of looks like a Panther, but there are much better kits.
Robi is a new model builder. If I recall correctly, he wrote that the Tamiya Panther A is his second completed model. He posted pictures in another thread and made his own zimmerit. That is fantastic for a second effort!
I think all of us learned skills on those old Tamiya models so he is following the tried and true path to success. They also have the virtue of being very cheap.
Sorry to you and Robi if I came across as rude. I haven’t seen the link to the build yet. I guessed that Robi was fairly new to the hobby by his subject matter and was attempting to be helpful by warning of some of the pitfalls of old models like the Tamiya Panther. Their G models are much better and the D is positively “modern”, but of course the A is usually cheap and widely sold so is great to learn some techniques on. The last Tamiya A I made was a gift from a well meaning friend, not a modeller, so I felt I had to make the best of it I could.
Nah, you didnt act rude. You just helped me find issues with this kit. I think everything is ok, except these rear wheels which are a little too High. Thanks for your tips guys, every post makes me a Better modeller. If i had some questions ill Ask you.
