Do it ! I’m learning a lot with this one, fixing the problems with the Trumpeter kit and working with scenery techniques as well as shrapnel impacts. He’s got a great video on replicating those.

@Seanmcandrews oh yeah i ordered it today, old dragon E-100 kit.

Your build and pics remind me… i have a Syrian T-62 that needs track to finish a valley of tears diorama.

Some parts need texturing. Some don’t. Once again, let your own research dictate what you decide is best - not the blanket trend in modeling to overdo everything.
I find this matched my own photos (Korea) perfectly.

@18bravo that looks great, did you do any sanding on it after applying?

There are two Tamiya products that are equivalent to Mr Surfacer, Tamiya Liquid Surface Primer in gray and white. In my experience, after stippling with an old brush the gray leveled out smoothly and the white maintained a desirable texture, so I’ve only used the white.

I only texture cast surfaces, not rolled plate, sheet metal, or machined surfaces like gun tubes. In order of increasing roughness I’ve used scraping with a curved blade, light roughing with a Dremel bit (both followed by a coating of liquid cement, softening with liquid cement and stippling, and lastly a stippled surface primer.

I did not for this, although sometimes I need to very lightly knock down some spots.

Having tried most of the methods described above, I cast my vote for Mr. Surfacer.

In my opinion, somewhat overdone is often fine. A pleasant artistic effect often looks better than perfect reality. However, it is easy to go too far, especially with texturing.

@KurtLaughlin yeah, i agree there’s certain spots on armored vehicles it makes sense to do it on. I do wonder if some people aren’t over doing it because it can appear to be a fad at times.

It wouldn’t be the first time.
