Nice work… That PE detailing to the masts really is neat … very effective looking.
Weekend got away from me a bit so I wasn’t able to do the rigging like I wanted but I did get the boats and masts installed. Having the masts installed has really pulled the superstructure together.
Also started work on the ships cranes and should have those build and installed this week, hopefully along with the rigging.
Had some time tonight so did some quick and dirty rigging. By no means completely accurate but close enough to a picture I found online to get the gist across.
Worked on the derricks today. Not overly complex but still small and fiddly. Very happy with how they came out.
Today I pulled the main turrets off their supports and mated them with the barrels and UPS launchers and I have to say that they look incredible. Honestly, they are too nice for this old Tamiya kit. MicroMasterNZ did an amazing job with these and while they were expensive, they were money very well spent.
Even unpainted they just add so much to the model.
Cant fault those mate, they look amazing and so well detailed.
I had hoped to get most of the PoW finished up this weekend but once again, time got away from me.
I did manage to get the secondary armaments and direction finders completed and once again they are gorgeous.
Once these are all painted and installed, I will only have railings and the Walrus to complete.
I will be the first to admit that my updates have not been super detailed but honestly I am at the stage were there isn’t that much to describe. All the 3D printed stuff is pretty much solid pieces and doesn’t require much building/description.
That being said, I am very close to completing the Prince of Wales. I just have railings and the Walrus to build and install.
Some teaser shots of the weapons/cranes painted and installed.
She should be completed this coming week ![]()
Very very nice
Looking great.
Cheers, Si
Launch day is upon us. Active build time was 49 days (ignoring the almost year sitting on the shelf unattended)
Really enjoyed building the Prince of Wales and I hope you all enjoyed the build along with me.
Just a reminder that this is the 2nd time I have built PoW. First time was almost 20 years ago.
And the new and improved version ![]()
I am unsure what my next ship build will be. I have a lot to choose from but I still have 2 half built 1/35 vehicles and most of the CVN-65 Airwing to complete. Definitely think it will be a smaller, easier to handle ship.
Thanks for following along and I will catch you all for the next one!
Well thats a superb 20 year old updated build. PoW looks amazing … Great lines, great detailing and a fantastic paint job and finish.
gratulation to PoW´s commission. It does look great and very realistic ![]()
Excellent result, I love this style of displays, a clean full hull look.

Looks marvelous!
A+++
Rory, I always thought that the PoW/Bismarck fight scheme of simple gray over gray was boring… but you have proved me wrong! Beautiful job, congratulations on a fine build!
I loved this build. You did a wonderful job. I liked how you embellished the kit with aftermarket, but IMHO did not go overboard on the details(no pun). I thought that was a relatively fast build. I am building the 1/350 Repluse and went too far down the rabbit hole and trying to slowly pull out.
I have to admit the same. And there is a lot of grey on this ship. But I have to say once she was fully built that the grey hull has really grown on me. I am seriously considering doing my MHS Hood with it as well.
Wow,
fantastic build! Congratulations to commissioning this truly outstanding PoW, and she really stands out - with her color scheme. It is anything but boring, I have to agree!
Great job, and thanks for sharing!
Cheers
