Tiger 111 info needed

Before several deployments and several overseas assignments as a civilian I had all the info I needed about this initial tiger of sP Blt 502, but that ,of course is long lost. What I need is info on hull number, any pictures of this unit with a later turret number two, did this turret have an escape hatch, and what type of turret stowage bin did this turret have.

I know this information may be hard to find. Several of the sources I found the info in before are no longer around.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

This Tiger’s numbers were 111, 2, 5 and 31.

It started life as a grey “initial”. Tool storage was added by the crews on those first Tigers, so it was non standard, and we’re lucky to have that photo of the rear wall.

The tank was then given a replacement turret, featuring a side hatch and the wide turret bin with side supports. This turret came from another Tiger, with the number 2 written on it. Doubtless the paint schemes didn’t match exactly.

Thank you, David. That’s the kind of information I needed.. I thought it was a wide bin but wasn’t sure if it had the side supports.

Any idea of the chassie number. There used to be a site years ago that had the hull numbers of the initial tigers ,but I can’t find it.

Ewww, tough question. I don’t know where anybody would get that info.

It’s not 1 or 2 but it could be 250003.

I found the archives of the old TIIF site this morning. The idea appears to be that the number of that hull was 250002. you were in that discusion.

to me 250003 makes more sense

Long time ago! Since then we have found 250002.

It was sent back to Germany quite early on. Got refurbished and reissued, to the training school at Paderborn. Lots of photographs show it.

If you’re interested, there is a Facebook Tiger modeling group called Tiger Forward that covers all of these Tiger units. The group creator, Richard Treadway, is one of the most knowledgeable students of Tiger history I know. It’s all about Tiger history and modelling. Check it out. It’s certainly helped me.

My main interest in this Tiger is the fact it seems to have been the most reliable and possibly the longest lived of the original “initial” Tigers of 502.

I did bite the bullet and applied to Tiger Forward.

Three days and Tiger Forward have not acknowledged…

Is that how they turn you down? By “ghosting” you?

Took me a couple days. Had to answer all the questions on the sign up page twice

Try again. I definitely don’t think he’s ghosting you.

Definitely. If they let me in they’ll surely let you in.

Well, they let me in but I asked the same question I asked here. so far no response. Site has interesting pics and vids but not a lot of details.
