Tony Greenland

Tony Greenland has passed away after a long illness.
I believe that his “Panzer Modeling Masterclass” is on every treadhead’s book shelf.
You either loved his style or you hated it, but he was one of the greats.

Yeah, I have his book. Picked up a lot and was a great source for me at the time.

Sad news.
It will happen to all of us eventually …

Yes I have his book on my shelf too. He was a great builder and finisher, although I personally found his models too clean but excellent none the less.

Sorry to hear this. I personally like his style and attempt to emulate it. I have the book and regularly refer to it. I don’t really like heavy weathering as I don’t pay the stiff prices for detailed models so I can cover all that detail up in goo!

Another one of the Great Ones has left us.

May he find many a model to build!

Another great one passes into history. I don’t have any of his books, but I do have plenty of issues of FSM from when he used to write great articles for that magazine.

RIP, that’s sad news. Back in ’95 when I bought Panzer Modelling Masterclass I didn’t have a clue, that book was a revelation about what was possible…well fairly impossible to match his standards, but even so. Over time I grew to dislike his factory-fresh finishes but never forgot what an inspiration he was. Probably the last of the pre-internet gurus.

(Just noticed my copy’s a 1995 first edition, anyone else?)

Sad to hear. As I have mentioned previously, back then, I thought his models of Panther IIs, E-series, etc. were of actual tanks. Shows how much I knew back then…

If memory serves correctly, did he not use that old orange Humbrol Afrika Korps Desert Yellow on a few models? Can’t fault him. I like that color and someone on M-L posted photos of jerrycans and one matched that shade.

Got my book through the Military Book Club. Anyone else? Have it in a storage bin in the garage. I should dig it out.

Rest In Peace.

Tony also contributed to the (first) Nuts & Bolts series. Those books also helped us along the path of panzer intricacies…
