Looks like it’s not sagging much. They did have beefed up springs. The gun with the mount weighed about as much as two corn fed farm boys.
Or a supply sergeant and his clerk… ![]()
Funny. When I was in 19th Group I called our supply sergeant and his sidekick Yogi Bear and Boo Boo. The short dumpy one hated it - whenever I saw him I’d say, “Hey hey Boo Boo - I smell a pick-i-nick basket!”
Great scratchbuilding John.Very neat and an interesting discussion.

Oddly enough, Field Station Augsburg 3rd Ops Bn had a BooBoo Bear too. Dude was short and dumpy and his BDU’s had this odd bluish hue to them; as if he laundered them with freshly dyed jeans or something.
Fake photo. There’s a fifty on the truck in the foreground
According to the TOW reference listed earlier on here, the XM232 and 236 jeep adapter kits were supplied during the VN operation. Any idea where I could find information or pictures of what these were? I’m assuming one was the launcher kit and one was the ammo carrier kit. Thanks, Wayne

I’ve already built a 106 gun jeep… now I need to build that .50 gun jeep
with the other 151A1 in my stash… you know Joes… they love to do all that unauthorized stuff… ![]()
I had looked on there, but the one they show is a later Marines version and I was wondering if the earlier xm version was the same. Wayne
Got a supplementary question about non-US TOW Jeeps (Luxembourg to be precise).
In the photo below, you can see the reload Jeep leading the TOW Jeep, but what interests me is how the FN-MAG is mounted on the leading Jeep. Does anyone have a better photo of the mount?
The Jeep has a windshield fitted, so I doubt the mount is on the top of the dashboard. I have a suspicion it is located on the side of the body? I can use some creative gizmology if needs be, but it would be nice to get it right ![]()
As an aside, it would appear that the driver of the second Jeep is being very impolite to the photographer ![]()
No, he is obviously signaling the lead driver that he will be number one… ![]()
After a couple of weeks on vacation, I’ve got back to the grindstone this evening. I’m working on a reload Jeep to go with my missile Jeep and have come across a curiosity (no photos just yet but I will post some over the weekend).
From the earlier posts about the reload jeep racking (post #33 I think), you’ll note that the TOW tubes sit slightly echeloned (two slightly over to the right and two slightly over to the left). The problem I’ve discovered is that the Tamiya TOW tubes won’t bridge the gap across the vehicle and sit on the racking when it’s in the correct locations, so something about the kit is incorrect (is the kit a bit too wide or maybe the TOW tubes are slightly too short I wonder?).
I can easily scratchbuild some longer tubes to solve the problem, but I thought I’d mention it.
I’ve been waiting patiently to see more of your build.
The tubes scale out correctly, as does the kit. I think the rubber pads may be slightly more inboard than they appear in the photos, as there is no clear “top down” view. My crude sketch may explain it. They appear to be mounted on those lateral rectangular bars which extend into the bed space.
My “Edge of fender well inside” line be be a little too far inboard in my sketch, but you get the idea.
Although I don’t plan on building this, I fiddled with some spare parts and Evergreen. You can make it work just like the photo.
Thanks Rob - that makes more sense. My initial measuring was done when I should have been in bed, so my brain wasn’t working the problem effectively.
This is the progress on my reload Jeep. The racking is the start of my second attempt and it’s lining up much better. Note also the MG pintle mount on the passenger side of the dashboard. I have a suitable pivot mounting that allows the mg to sit outside the vehicle.
I decided to pair the reload Jeep with the M151A1 TOW conversion and probably won’t do one to go with the later A2 project.
That gun mount looks good.
