Hello all, I’ve seen a picture on trucks on the Ho Chi Minh trail and wanted to do something similar but I can’t tell what this truck is. The caption calls it a GAZ 51, but it looks more like a KRAZ 214. But the headlights and lack of hood ornament don’t match. Any ideas? Wayne
The Gaz-51 was used by the NVA.
It could also be a Zil-151..
Or a Zil-157…
Zil-130…
Or a variety of Chinese-made or copied trucks that looked similar as well.
I can’t figure out how to share the picture, but it has the squared off hood and grill of the Kraz, but the headlights are different. The 51 lights look the closest. Wayne
Is this the picture you’re talking about ?
If so I guess the pictured truck is a 4x4 GAZ-63
GAZ-63 in a Vietnamese museum (you can notice the same type of tires) :

Yes, that’s the one.Because of the hood shape I assumed it was a Kraz until I started looking at the headlights and lack of the hood ornament. I couldn’t bring up the second picture for some reason. Wayne
Hi, if you wish to model this then Guntower models do the 4x2 cargo truck. The Trumpeter BTR-40 will provide a 4x4 chassis. Note, l think Guntower might be a Russian company if you are boycotting for ethical reasons.
B&L Models from Vietnam also makes a 3D printed GAZ-63 that will be easier to get then the Guntower kit.
