Perfect, just what I needed to see. The fender supports do cover a lot of it up. I was worried about the vertical ones but it looks like weld beads will fix it. I’ve seen a couple build videos since I asked the question that show the same issue so I don’t think it was my negligence. Some people have left them but I found one video where a guy fills them with stretched sprue. Think that’s the route I’ll go
Some of that welding looks like it was done by a blacksmith…
At least you won’t be able to mess up this model, your added welding will allways look better than the original
That looks like weld central …that should keep you busy for a while @Mead93
It wouldn’t surprise me if it was Bert… especially in those times when everyone got roped in for the Motherland …
I’ve built Trumpeter’s KV-2 twice, and I know I had that same gap the first time. Pretty sure it came up again the 2nd time around, but can’t remember for sure. Think it’s safe to blame the kit on this one
Good to know it wasn’t jsut me. I dry fitted the heck out of it trying to figure out what was causing it.
With your troubles as well, and seeing the gap on other builds, I agree it’s a kit issue. Thankfully there is a nice big weld seam right where the gap is
Almost done. Few more bits and I can focus on painting.
Most likely will be three tome camo ; light grey -green- black.
That’s looking terrific Igor. Nice choice for the cam scheme as well …looking forward to seeing it
Fantastic builds in this campagne…
I got the AK forest green down…
Mixed the AK with cellulose thinner from a car shop, about 60/40. As others have said, you can’t fault how easy this AKRC goes on, and consistent even spray …
Can start the detail painting now, and dusting up the tyre. Wheels are not set on properly yet. Will also give it a was with the AK NATO one…
Wow John looks like a perfect paint job.
Thanks Matt. The AK went down like a dream again … So nice and that hard finish you get is great.
Some points though that I have now seen and questions for the LAV experts.
I have seen some seam lines that I missed so will deal with those with Mr Surfacer and repaint in localised areas.
-
The Stinger tube. On the 4 launch holes, I have seen them black or what looks like light grey ? What’s the opinion on the colour ?
-
On the GAU, I presume it’s the sight or emergency sight in front of both windows with 3 prongs hanging down. I will add those if possible.
-
There is a grab rail missing from the instructions on the upper LH hull side. Will add that from spares.
-
The front line cutter is missing in front the DVRs cab. Will add that from spares in the kit as I used PE ones on the turret.
-
And the turret windows. I’m not happy with the way they look … to clear and neat… I’m thinking of giving them a really thinned down coat of x19 smoke or x25 clear green… thoughts on that one ?
-
The rocket pod. What colour would the nose of the rockets be ? Green, black , metallic ? ?
- I would say they are GAS (Gunners auxiliary sight).
I am not sure about the rest but I may try this to avoid those issues.
Yeah that’s the image I saw as well Ryan.
I have started with the Mr surfacer and the coloured confectionery wrapper and silver one are for the DVRs vision blocks and wing mirrors.
Also done the cable cutter and new grab handle.
The seams on the turret
I think I’m going to go with the thinned down X19 smoke on the windows…
Drivers vision blocks done.
Have also painted cable cutter and grab rail. Started headlights, and put a silver undercoat on the orange indicator’s/sidelights and same for brake lights at rear.
I also did pin pricks of cyno around some grab handles and the lifting eyes where there were some obvious gaps and repainted.
Few more little bits done.
Orange lighting done and brake lights.
Tyres have been scuffed up and ready to paint next. Black caps on MBSGDS done and the Stinger exit holes. Need to do the GAU barrels and the added bits to the sights.
Will need to retouch some of the hull green and turret areas. And use some very thinned down flat earth as a wash over the tyres. Also will have to repaint all the Mr surfacer areas and the tools.
Why is it that when you look at something from a different angle, you get a lightbulb moment…
Guess what I forgot…
And yes, it was both sides lol.
I painted the GAU flat black and will highlight some points with a bit of graphite or AK steel pigments.
And I did try and add the 3 angled prongs for the Gunners Auxiliary Sight which I saw and @Tank_1812 Ryan posted the pic of.
Now I know they are a tad over scale but the thin metal wire I was trying just wouldn’t stay in the right place, and this was the thinnest plastic rod I had to hand. Hopefully they give you idea of what I was trying. And they will be painted black.
Have also repainted all the Mr surfacer areas in green again. And I have painted the tyres with Tamiya tyre rubber and they will get the very thinned flat earth wash tomorrow and I will also try and get the decals on.
Good thing you remembered those tie down rings other wise the kit would have been rubbish.
I am sure most will miss the prongs as they are looking at the gun and rockets wondering if your doing a sci-fi build to notice either way.
Lol… Cheers Ryan…at least you and I will know the prongs are there
