Photos taken of the committed figure kit, TAKOM’s 1/16 Ho 229 Pilot that I’m going to make a Sci-Fi ground trooper with minimal modifications except adding some torso pouches from my 1/16 spares box.
He will carry a ridiculously large Sci-Fi gun that I bought as a 3D CAD set and had @MikeyBugs 3D print out for me. All the guns are totally oversized, more like 1/13 scale, but that’s OK and not the fault of the 3D printer, MikeyBugs.
I’ll see what I can scrape up from my spares box to make it a bit more futuristic; however, I do intend to make most of this figure out-of-the-box.
Well, this little kit has proven to be immensely frustrating to fit together despite the small number of parts. A lot of mould defects and flash have had to be whittled, scraped, filed and sanded back just to get the upper and lower parts together. But finally managed to get them together today.
@phantom_phanatic I am somewhat surprised that model is causing so much trouble! As a kid, I built the 1/48 version and cannot recall having many problems.
@KoSprueone There is still plenty of time! A lot of ‘UFO’ type models are really simple builds.

I am plugging away on my own flying saucer. I ended up building a second cockpit, still in progress. The first cockpit fit but I did not like it very much.
I get the impression that the mould is worn out and damaged. I think Revell were constantly churning these out since the 80’s. I think it’s only been dropped from the catalogue in last couple of years. It was probably pretty good when first released.
I don’t like the raised flaps on the wings. They’re different sizes to each other when you compare both sides. One side was nearly solid with flash. I might cut them off, clean up the hole as best I can and replace with plasticard.
My progress so far…I finished adding the 1/16 pouches from my Airborne Miniatures spares box and added 1/35 Trumpeter gun scopes along with WAVE circular disks to the 1/16 Legend Productions helmet.
I had a hard time assembling the clear helmet, even with Gorilla Glue. The clear parts were super-hard to get to stick together, and I had no intention of leaving the helmet as clear as I wanted to spray paint it over. I ended up discarding the clear helmet and opted for Legend’s 1/16 Ops-Core helmet, which fortunately fit the head. Thus, the arm was positioned wide to accommodate the round helmet and had I’d known that the helmet was a pain to assemble, I would have moved the arm in closer perhaps.
I filled the barely visible gaps with putty and I need to clean/sand off the excess and wash the entire figure. The figure’s fit is excellent, so much so that they are hardly any gaps at all.
The rifle might change…I’m not sure yet which one to use from the 3D printed ones.
Please pardon me for not being very active. Real life bit rather hard.
@Trisaw That looks really good. The mixture of 1940s and modern elements looks very good.
@phantom_phanatic That sure looks like a lot of work! I really like the shape.
@justsendit That is a neat little model! Now I want to build something similar in 1/35.

As an aside, one of my previous ‘Poster’ style campaign medals was rejected. I am working on a more traditional campaign medal, just in case. It will utilize the exact same imagery.
Hi guys,
Here’s an update for the Lockheed Martin ‘Hopeless Diamond’…
Worked on the clamshell with cockpit tub dry-fit. Sanded wheel bays and finished-up the landing gear assemblies. Had to fabricate a new front oleo out of Evergreen Angle, as the tiny original part just melted away after several gluing attempts.
According to “whistleblower” rumors in the 1990s, “Blue” as here with “Have Blue” or elsewhere such as “Tacit Blue” indicates technology from back-engineered craft.
Have fun! Can’t wait to see this! Would be so cool to put blue LEDs in the exhaust.
