Unidentified Flying Object

For some time after WW2 British projects were given a two word “Rainbow Code” name, the first word being a random colour. “Blue” was used for some radar systems, although not uniquely or exclusively, e.g. Blue Fox in the Sea Harrier FRS.1., Blue Parrot in the Bucaneer. Radar Systems frequently were not ready before the intended user aircraft were in the air, and were substituted by concrete ballast, inevitably christened Blue Circle

Cheers,

M

That’s looking really good! Pilot has lots of space either side for drinks and snacks on those long secret missions.

I got the filler sanded back this afternoon which smoothed everything out nicely. Brushed on some Mr Surfacer to seal it and fill any smaller gaps that remain.

Camouflage pattern finished using AK Interactive’s REAL Markers.

I started painting the face and I still need to do the detail painting, washes, drybrushing, inking, bordering, and shading.

The Sci-Fi rifle needs to be spray painted; however, it’s been raining the past couple of days so I didn’t get a chance to do that. I don’t want to use AK Markers on it, but I could if required because of the rainy weather.

Progress looking great everyone.

I finally remembered what I want to build for this campaign. Plan 9 From Outer Space. “Unspeakable horrors from outer space paralyze the living and resurrect the Dead!

Looks to be a total of three parts to this kit if I build it like the one(s) in the movie.

Hi guys,
Here’s another update from the ‘Skunk Works’…

The ‘Hopeless Diamond’ cockpit tub received a little attention… some scratchy Tamiya Tape seatbelts and instrument painting. :hammer_and_wrench::paintbrush:

.

I added exhaust deflectors to give her aft end a bit more bustle.
• Evergreen Styrene Strip 106 (.010” x .125”) (0.25 mm x 3.2 mm)

Moving on to the diorama base…
I printed a tarmac joint layout onto paper (2"x2" @ 9°). Then, I transferred and scribed the joints onto the base.
• Wood Block (1”x4”x6”)

The base was primed…
• Rust-Oleum 334020 Painter’s Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint, Flat Black

Here’s a rough mockup. Keep in mind, this is only pre-shading and not the final tarmac color. More paint layers to follow.

Then, I went on a tangent… as I often do. … So, to prevent the model from rolling off of the workbench, I scratch-built a few wheel chocks.
• Evergreen Styrene Angle (293) .100” (2.5 mm)
• Tamiya (87053) Basic Grey Putty
• Mr Surfacer 1500
• Vallejo Sun Yellow (72.006)
• Syren Ship Model .018 (.45mm) ULTRA Tan Scale Rope
• Tamiya TS-80 Flat Clear

Added brake lines to the Landin gear.
• HARELINE Lead Wire (L15) .015
• AK Real Color Marker: Aluminum (RCM010)

“Tower to Hopeless. … Gear separation at takeoff? … Over.” :studio_microphone:
“Hopeless to Tower … Negative. … Trying-out new stealth paint job. … Over”:paintbrush::grin:

Thanks for having a look!

Looking at this more today…

Nice work!

What tool did you use to scribe the joints?

The saucer in the movie only uses these three parts. The fit is not bad.

Thank you!
Made quick work of it with a ‘Tamiya Plastic Scriber II.’

Looking forward to more on ‘Plan 9’… parts one, two, and three!
I still need to finish watching the movie. …:nine:

I get that but if you watch the movie Ed Wood, you might have a better appreciation for the film. I know I did.

Speaking of wood… :man_facepalming:

I scribed a few fractures into the tarmac base. Then, I masked-off the top edge and sprayed (mottled) the base colors.
• Vallejo Desert Yellow (70.997)
• Vallejo Sand Ivory (71.075)

I’ll let this cure and then add some minimal wear/weathering.
I’ve also been working on the cockpit window (poor fit) and other bits and bobs.

Thanks for having a look!

I’m liking that base. I may need to make a base as well.

Ok, seems not so bad. Pretty good actually.
